Job Description

As a Manufacturing Engineering Global Propulsion Systems Cooperative Education Program Student, you will participate in the GM EXCEL (Exploring Careers through Experiential Learning) Program. Opportunities to perform multiple co-op work assignments to satisfy the cooperative education requirements of your academic institution necessary to obtain your degree is possible, with continuing positive performance. Successfully complete all deliverables for your specific project(s),includingcompleting any/all corporate required/site specific/department specific and any optional training; gathering and analysis of data/information; development of findings and recommendations; presentation of findings and recommendations to team and to leadership.

Perform specific project/assignment(s) within a Headquarters and/or manufacturing facility environment (including suppliers). Can include involvement with any of the Propulsion Systems components or assemblies currently being manufactured or, those being developed for future manufacture, and any of the Machinery & Equipment &/or Manufacturing Processes related to them. May include activities such as:

  • Analyze make/purchase components for the best method of manufacture / assembly / test.
  • Propose and/or evaluate manufacturing processes and/or plant layouts for machinery & equipment in assigned area and/or productprogram
  • Direct the design, development, analysis, and/or improvement of manufacturing processes for an assigned area orprogram
  • Provide technical support to Operations personnel for specific plant machinery & equipment, including specifications, purchase, runoff, installation, debug, PPAP, and ramp-upactivities(Launch Execution)
  • Regular contact with others outside the assigned work group, and/or outside of GM, asrequired
  • Develop Tooling, Tool Change and/or associated manufacturingprocesses
  • Prepare and deliver reports on workprogress
  • Gather, analyze and report ondata
  • Investigate problems and recommend/analyze possiblesolutions

Additional Job Description

Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering,Electrical Engineering Technology,Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering,Mechanical Engineering Technology,Materials Science Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering,Controls, orChemicalEngineering
  • Must be graduating between in fall 2023 or later
  • Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week
  • Willingness to work in a plant/manufacturing environment
  • Enrolled in a co-op program at your university

Preferred Experience:
  • Worked with or exposure to manufacturing processes for:
    • Casting/Foundry
    • Powertrain machining/assembly
  • Mechanical Engineering applications
  • Electrical / Controls /Computer Engineering applications
  • Industrial Engineering applications
  • Chemical Engineering applications
  • Materials Science applications
  • Gear Engineering & Manufacturing
  • Battery Assembly
  • Fuel Cell Technology
  • Electric Motors / Electric Drive Unit Technology
  • Engineering Documentation / Planning
  • Testing & Verification / Quality Systems
  • Maintenance applications

  • Onsite: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
  • Hybrid: This position does not require an employee to be onsite full-time to perform most effectively. The employee's role enables them to work at a GM facility or off-site as frequently as needed or desired.

The start date for these roles are for 2023. GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to each student selected for the 2023 Student Program.
