Basic Function

The Application and Product Development Engineer for C&LC leads application and product development projects based on strategic brand owner/customer engagement by facilitating the timely and effective development and commercialization of products and solutions in targeted CLC related market segments. This position leads the application and product development projects through facilitating close collaboration with key internal and external customers, project leads and associated assets. This includes: (i) Capturing and understanding technical needs and initiating/leading projects for new applications and products to meet those needs; (ii) Collaborating internally to assess new opportunities based on technical feasibility and commercial attractiveness; (iii) Leading technical activities for developing and commercializing new products in new or existing applications as well as developing applications for existing products.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Possesses a deep and broad fundamental understanding of key CLC technologies and requirements of applications in targeted market segments and uses these skills to drive product and application development activities within the group.
  • Understands and verifies brand owner and converter needs, linking these to critical product attributes, while also recommending product performance targets and prototyping potential product solutions.
  • Works across functions and levels at brand owners and converters to identify critical application / product / innovation opportunities and conducts scouting research and design of experiments to develop proof of concept, with the intent of establishing technical and commercial feasibility.
  • Supports the commercial scale-up of existing products in new applications and new products to achieve business objectives.
  • Leads the assessment and qualification of recyclate raw materials (pelletized PCR/PIR).
  • Formulates new CirculenRecover products and models resin performance in targeted conversion processes, markets and end use applications.
  • Works cross functionally to manage medium term application and product development projects from initiation, through qualification, to subsequent commercialization in support of business directed objectives to meet brand owner and converter needs.
  • Understands financial analysis and drives the utilization of good project management skills and tools to effectively advance application and product development projects.
  • Provides support to manufacturing plants including process improvement initiatives and other activities during the development of new products.
  • Actively collaborates with technical O&P ADTS/PAD/MPD/R&D groups while also fostering effective communication across functions
  • Supports R&D efforts in the development of new analytical / physical testing methods to assess product performance in targeted applications.
  • Recognized as a technical subject matter expert in polymer structure, property and technology process relationships and focused on application development and product design.
  • Leads efforts to ensure that all products meet the Product Stewardship and Regulatory requirements for the targeted application.
  • Act as Product Champion for CirculenRecover products.
  • Participate / Lead Sub-Committees in corporate wide Mechanical Recycling Know-How team.

Min. Qualifications

  • Four-year Technical (B.S.) degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience.
  • Strong technological orientation, results oriented, project management, innovation, creativity, good oral and written communication skills, teamwork, problem solving and decision making skills are essential for this position.
  • This position will require approximately 25% travel mostly within the US, Canada and Mexico.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of market segments, products, applications, conversion processes, packaging design and brand owners/customers.
  • Strong business competency with the ability to assess the commercial value of new products.
