Job Summary

Provide direction for facilities planning, buildings and grounds maintenance, environmental health and safety compliance, campus logistical support operations, and campus event support; provide a clean and safe environment for teaching, learning, working and community activities in support of the mission of the college.

Job Duties

  • Direct supervision of physical plant personnel to include building maintenance, grounds maintenance, shipping & receiving, mail services, physical inventory management, building access security, fleet transportation, event setups, and custodial services.
  • Assist the Director in developing and implement facilities plans, policies and procedures to promote a strong service-oriented staff. Develop facilities goals and objectives consistent with the College and the Department of Finance and Operation mission and strategic plan.
  • Serve as the College's Chief Safety Officer. Provide management and direction for implementation and compliance of federal regulations including the Americans with Disabilities Act as related to facilities (ADA), life safety compliance, OSHA/TOSHA regulations, EPA standards, and right-to-know laws.
  • Function as internal consultant to the College officers, deans, and department heads to provide advice on code compliance as related to physical facilities. Plan and advise on internal campus space reconfiguration projects. Support efficient use of energy resources through utilization of building automation systems and technology.
  • Oversee the Environmental, Health and Safety operations to include building fire security systems operation and maintenance, employee safety training, handling of hazardous materials, and oversight of environmental hazard remediation projects. Develop of facilities disaster recovery plans for the college. Serve as lead on Facilities Disaster Recovery.
  • Supervise the preventive maintenance program for all utility systems: heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and mechanical equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma and four years related experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general maintenance practices
  • Knowledge of safety laws and practices
  • Ability to supervise and manage personnel
  • Ability to develop and manage a departmental budget
  • Ability to apply modern management techniques
  • Ability to work effectively with other staff members and the public
  • Ability to transport heavy objects is required
  • Travel is necessary
  • Extended hours may be required on an as needed basis
  • Preventive maintenance schedules
  • General codes and laws from various governing authorities

Location:

The Maintenance Building on the main campus of Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee, is the primary workplace. Travel to off-campus sites to supervise maintenance and grounds care is required.
