The Automation Architect will primarily be responsible for defining companywide industrial engineering strategies, standards and the accompanying technology stack supporting Tyson's manufacturing operations by maximizing productivity and operating capabilities in all key areas through the use of Kaizen 8 step problem solving facilitation, Lean tool implementation and Industrial Engineering techniques. The ideal candidate will also have extensive experience in industrial automation, with a focus on PLC, MES, SCADA and IIoT systems, communications architecture, and integration with robotics and databases. This person must be capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams and plant engineers and managers. It is desirable for the successful candidate to have knowledge in manufacturing assembly systems, a deep understanding of food/meat processing industries, as well as exceptional interpersonal, organizational and management skills, demonstrating the ability to be an innovator and change agent.

Responsibilities

Engineering:

  • Review engineering specifications
  • Develop management controls systems
  • Institute quality control procedures to resolve quality control procedures
  • Design control systems and coordinate activities and production planning
  • Responsible for vendor management to negotiate
  • Discuss product specifications with clients
  • Determine how to deliver services with maximum efficiency
  • Lead research to determine the most profitable places to locate manufacturing or processing plants
  • Support and facilitate ergonomic improvements to support a safe work environment for our team members.
  • Provide Kaizen and project management support including communicating and championing benefits/results.
  • Interact with all stakeholders effectively; Production Leadership, Facilities management, Information and Technology Systems (ITS) teams and front line team members to drive sustainable improvement and business results that tie to our business plan
  • Support sharing best practices ongoing communication and effective Standard Operating Procedure development.
  • Support and improve standard time development processes to effectively measure operational efficiency.
  • Engage and assist in developing facility plans as needed to minimize non-value added time and maximize flow.
  • Any Tyson specific initiatives that needs this person to lead, drive, contribute and support.

Manufacturing:
  • Leverage a combination of experience in process control and monitoring, MES, SCADA, PLC, IIOT and motion control systems to apply theories and principles of science and mathematics to design and develop technical factory automation patterns for Tyson's food processing plants.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to develop, maintain and govern the Manufacturing Floor Technology Stack Roadmap
  • Define Tyson's "Manufacturing Floor Technology Stack" by analyzing current state and proposed future state processes at various levels of granularity
  • Provide feedback and consultation in factory system and automation design reviews.
  • Participate in conversations with production staff on Automation & Control related topics and issues.
  • Support maintenance and sustaining teams in troubleshooting difficult equipment failures.
  • Create and maintain Robotics and Manufacturing Systems strategy, standards and patterns architecture artifacts and communicate artifacts to IT partners, plant engineer teams.
  • Maintain and improve programming standards documents for PLC, Ignition SCADA automated systems, and AWS/GCP IoT platforms.
  • Collaborate with domain architects, integration architects, and IT partners to review and propose technical design for PoC or new initiatives that stick to established factory system, devices, and automation standards.
  • Conduct continuous research to keep abreast of the latest developments and technology trends of Industry 4.0, IIoT and Digital Twin in the food processing industry. Educate and influence business and IT partners to adopt and gradually add these new capabilities in Tyson's factory system portfolios.

Minimum Qualifications
  • {Bachelor/Master}'s degree in Industrial Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, MBA preferred
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of Cloud Computing, IIoT, Edge Computing in production system.
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience of designing, developing, and supporting production factory automation systems that use MES, PLC and SCADA (Ignition preferred).
  • 8+ years experience in Industrial Engineering & Design within a production environment.
  • Must possess strong knowledge of process controls, motor controls, instrumentation, automation principles, and industrial networking.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles and techniques related to food processing and the meat industry, preferred.
  • Ability to apply sound engineering principles to operational and design issues.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning and adaptability.
  • Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time.
