Description

The West Virginia University Research Corporation Departmet of Biochemistry (https://medicine.hsc.wvu.edu/biochemistry/) is currently recruiting a Biological LabTechnician.  In this role, the technician will closely interact with the principal investigator (PI) and work on research focused on disrupting the steam cell properties of cancer cells.  The projects will require using a combination of approaches incuding the generation and delivery of exression vectors in eukaryotic cells, assays of gene expression level, high throught out drug screening, cell culture and assays of cell proliferation and cell death, and phenotyping of animal models.  The selected candidate will join a productive and collaborative laboratory.  Qualified individuals will demonstrate the potential for research as evidenced by their academic background in a science, technology, engineering or math-related field, by their prior laboratory experience (if any) and other evidence of creativity, independence or motivation.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Be able to work with the Pl to learn hypothesis-driven experimental design. With trainlng, to conduct exper!ments rigorously and independently
  • Learn skills including molecular biology approaches such as DNA clorilng, sequence analysis and preparation/analysis of genomic DNA, rnRNA or protein
  • Leam computer skills, to effectively utilize basic applications such as Microsoft Office apps {e,g., Excel, Powerpoint) and statistical analysis packages such as Graphpad Prism
  • Willing to assist in mentoring junior lab members
  • Possess demonstrated ability to work effectively with others
  • Excel in time and workload management skills
  • Develop skills and show motivation in organizing and maintaining the laboratory.
     


Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • Laboratory experiences such as are typical in general chemistry or biology courses as an undergraduate student
  • Motivation, good time management and communication skills are required.
  • Ability and motivation to learn new things are required.
  • Evidence of creativity and enthusiasm for.research.is preferred,
