Location of position: Central Office, Lincoln, NE - 801 W. Prospector Bldg 1

Examples of Work
The Health Services' (HS) Business Manager is responsible for:

  • Planning, directing, and coordinating business operations for the HS Division which has operations in multiple locations and includes medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, mental health and substance abuse.
  • Advises and assists the Health Services Administrator (HSA) on all business and administrative matters to identify impact, potential issues and to develop solutions.
  • Provides technical assistance to the HSA in the development and implementation of directives, standards and/or program operations.
  • Supervises administrative support staff.
  • Analyzes data.
  • Develops and implements budgets.
  • Prepares reports for senior management.
  • Ensures the department complies with departmental and state polices.
  • Ensures workers have the resources to complete their work.
  • Performs human resource activities such as performance evaluations, hiring and discipline. Motivates workers through incentives and positive feedback.
  • Implements new technology used within the HS Division.
  • Assists with internal audits.
  • Serves as HS Liaison for consulting firms and vendors.
  • Conducts research through vendor websites, healthcare specialists, and historic and current documentation online, in person, by phone, and via email in order to accurately identify and address the specialized operational needs of the HS Division. This position will report to NDCS Accounting.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, accounting or any discipline related to the work assigned. One year of experience in planning, organizing, and implementing program administrative or business financial functions. Experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED: One year of supervisory experience; three years business experience to include developing spreadsheets and graphs to present meaningful data and information; one year healthcare business management experience.

OTHER: At time of interview, applicants may provide examples of past project management, spreadsheet development, financial analysis, process improvement or similar accomplishments. At the time of interview, the applicant will complete an Excel test. Transcripts required prior to appointment. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
