Role Summary:

The Principal Decision Scientist role resides with the Enterprise Data Science and Analytics team and is a key player in planning, executing, and delivering machine learning-based projects. This role is responsible for the use of statistical, algorithmic, data mining, and visualization techniques applied to complex data structures. Critical success factors include providing analytical insights, models, data visualizations, and analytical direction that shape the future strategy of our Mobility transformation.

The Enterprise Data Science and Analytics team has a clear vision - use data to make better business decisions that increase brand loyalty and customer centricity. Researching and developing applications for advanced analytics and artificial intelligence, the Decision Scientist II will support our mission to transform the business. Working cross-functionally across the organization, the Decision Scientist II will deliver on various use cases that positively influence business decisions and direction. The primary responsibility for this position will be to elevate the level of our advanced analytics, statistical and ML models and the insights delivered to our business partners.

The successful candidate will be a collaborator that is skilled in bringing insights from data to life. This is a new position, in a new team, with the unique opportunity to lay the foundation of how data and data driven decisions become a core element to our strategy.

Role Responsibilities:

Extract, curate, explore, and analyze data from large data sources (20%)

Develop and deploy statistical and ML models that influenced business decisions (20%)

Develop data/analytics algorithms and data structures (20%)

Collaborate with business owners, stakeholders, and leadership to methodically transform business problems into detailed and practical analytical requirements (20%)

Support the definition and deployment of a machine learning environment (10%)

Innovate new ML methods in the data sciences space and drive change throughout the business (5%)

Research new data sources and analytical tools; contribute to new application development and data quality improvement efforts (5%)

Experience:

Required -

10+ years of work experience

5+ years in utilizing methods and tools to extract, curate, explore, and analyze data from large data sources

5+ years in developing, integrating, and deploying machine learning solutions into the business decision making process

5+ years in developing decision science algorithms

2+ years in the fundamentals of big data

Education:

Required -

Bachelor's degree in Economics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Operations Research, or similar quantitative STEM field

Master's degree in Statistics, Finance, Computer Science, Economics or Operations Research or similar quantitative STEM field

Desired -

Additional certifications in data science or analytics-related fields

Collaborate with business owners, stakeholders, and leadership to methodically transform business problems into detailed and practical analytical requirements

Build, integrate and deploy machine learning solutions into the business decision making process

Generate data-driven insights to help guide key business decisions

Proactively mine data warehouses to identify trends and patterns to generate insights for business units and senior leadership

Perform large-scale experimentation to identify hidden relationships between variables in large datasets

Research and implement cutting-edge techniques and tools in machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence to make data analysis more efficient

Visualize information and develop engaging reports on the results of data analysis using data visualization tools

Utilize a consultative approach to work with the business to solve challenging problems using various analytical techniques

Embrace, research, explore, and enable new quantitative techniques and technologies in data science that will help define We are an industry leader in the application of data science techniques

Research new data sources and analytical tools, contribute to new application development, and data quality improvement efforts

Ability to originate curiosity to collaborate with different business units to co-create solutions

Blend of strategic and tactical thinking, creative and analytic reasoning

Passion for data analysis and problem solving

A fantastic storyteller who is at ease presenting to, and can influence, senior executives

Specialized Skills:

Required -

Demonstrated experience with RapidMiner

Expert in methods and tools to extract, curate, explore, and analyze data from large data sources (e.g., SQL, Redshift, Hadoop, Hive, Impala, Oracle).

Proven track record with machine learning (ML) tools to influence business decisions (e.g., Python, Spark, R, TensorFlow)

Extensive experience in the use of advanced statistics and the fundamentals of data/analytics algorithms and data structures

Experience with AWS, in particular SageMaker, or Azure or Google Cloud

Experience conducting statistical analysis with advanced statistical software, scripting languages, and packages

Extensive experience utilizing data visualization tools to effectively communicate key data insights (e.g., Tableau, Qlik, Dash)

Ability to complete complex quantitative analysis with defined actionable outcomes

Experience deploying advanced models into a production environment (MLOps)

In-depth knowledge of back-testing, validation, and detecting model degradation over time

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience, both in writing and verbally

Comfortable working with tight deadlines; must be proactive and able to multi-task

Successful record of accomplishment of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial, and dynamic environment

Strong communication skills across all mediums and audience types (technical, business, executive, etc.)

Desired -

Background in or working knowledge of Deep Learning and Neural Networks

Experience in developing analytical solutions from non-standard data sources (e.g., free form text, twitter feeds, etc.)

Experience in Financial Services preferable and familiarity with the regulatory environment

Experience with geospatial modeling
