Occupational Summary
This position is within the newly formed Surgery Office for Data Advancement (SODA) team and will work closely with several divisions within the Department of Surgery. The primary assignment will be for the Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i) Tissue and Data Acquisition Protocol (TDAP)study. SC2i aims to improve the care of critically injured service men and women by facilitating the development, translation, and dissemination of data-driven care models relevant to patients requiring surgery or surgical critical care.

Work Performed

  • The position may also support other databases and projects Department-wide.
  • Enter data for Surgical Critical Care Initiative (SC2i) studies and other studies as assigned Department-wide.
  • Serve as the secondary reviewer of data entry by other parties.
  • Perform data review under direct supervision by the Data Manager and/or Research Program Leader.
  • Create and/or maintain a report to track what database variables can be automated, have been automated, and areas that need further development to automate in a form by form format.
  • Work with IT analysts, Data Managers, and Clinical Data Specialists to track and report progress to Program Manager, faculty, and project administration.
  • Answer and resolve database queries in a timely manner.
  • Execute relevant discrepancy reports and reconcile errors under the direction of the Clinical Data Specialist, Data Manager, and/or Research Program Leader.
  • Execute a data entry completion report at monthly intervals.
  • Work with Data Managers and Clinical Data Specialists to develop, revise, or update standard progress reports for Program Manager, team, and faculty presentation, which may include: number of patients entered, main diagnosis or procedure, and other summary data of interest to faculty and administration.
  • Understand and abide by the data reference manual(s). Contribute to writing and revising the manual's data definitions, data hierarchy, and any tips for future data enterers and consumers under the direction of the Data Manager and/or Research Program Leader.

Minimum Qualifications

Work generally requires an associate's degree in a field related to the specific position.

Two years required above education/training requirements. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office applications (i.e., excel, word)
  • Data entry experience is preferred
  • Minimal exposure to and/or understanding of the clinical setting is preferred
  • Additionally, experience with electronic medical records is preferred
