Engineering Manager, Sustaining Product Development

For the last 100 years, our engines, generators and UPS products have powered homes, hospitals lawn mowers, stadiums, and everything in-between. As the Engineering Manager, Sustaining Product Development you will research, identify and procure new development tools (equipment, software, etc.), manufacturing processes and equipment enabling higher levels of efficiency and productivity within the department and operations. In addition, you will support VAVE/idea generation events and strategies to identify Material Cost Reduction and productivity opportunities while maintaining or improving product quality and vendor service levels.

  • Evolve the Engineering organization to a higher performance level. Build technical breadth and depth via effective hiring, training, and development of Engineering staff. Evaluate and sponsor the continued technical growth of the department's human resources.
  • Demonstrated expertise to apply DFx (manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, safety, cost) knowledge to instrument designs strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and experienced with tolerance analysis.
  • Proven ability to drive solid engineering solution to sophisticated problems using best in class tools, with an understanding of Design of Experiment (DOE) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Evident passion, flexibility, initiative, creativity, ownership and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to capture and analyze large amounts of data to identify the best project opportunities based on data - Pareto, force rank, effort vs impact, etc.
  • Responsible for overall strategy to reach target savings for the product through a disciplined & structured DMAIC wave approach.
  • Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas such as Sales, Engineering, Marketing, Manufacturing and Purchasing to identify technical cost reduction and market opportunities.
  • Retain close coordination with Product Management and Engineering to meet new product cost targets and evaluate DE proliferation/part number rationalization strategies.
  • Manage the interactions between offshore resources and internal resources to expedite project deliverables.
  • Support "should be" cost analysis to support purchasing negotiation strategies.
  • Improve Engineering systems and processes to increase efficiency and effectiveness. Empower Development Engineers with tools that enable higher-quality output, including hardware, software, and instrumentation.
  • Ensure the roles and responsibilities of subordinates are clearly defined and communicated. Review and appraise the qualifica­tions and work performance records of each subordinate periodically, as prescribed by Company policy. Recommend the promotion, dismissal, or change in compensation of subordinates in accord with Company schedules.

Skills/Requirements

  • Position requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical, with
  • 10+ years of broad engineering management experience in relevant fields including successful product development contributions.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management and customers and a practical working knowledge of marketing, finance, materials, manufacturing, as well as engineering functions.
  • Prior leadership experience preferred.
