The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist position focuses on utilizing technical skills to support EHS compliance programs.

This position specifically focuses on utilizing technical skills for the purposes of problem solving and ensuring compliance with the management of safety and health programs in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards. Additionally, this position would require utilizing technical skills to support environmental projects related to storage tank inspections and assessments, Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plans (SPCC), storage stormwater management including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) preparation, and other aspects of environmental compliance.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
  • Works effectively, both independently and in a team setting.
  • Conducts scientific analysis with minimal supervision at client sites to collect data
  • Knowledgeable of regulatory standards in EHS technical areas
  • Under the direction of a Certified Industrial Hygienist and/or Certified Safety Professional, support the completion of the following for internal and external clients:
    • Industrial hygiene surveys (ergonomics, noise)
    • Exposure monitoring (radiation, beryllium, thorium, hexavalent chromium, mold)
    • Multimedia sampling (wipe, air, water/wastewater)
    • Confined space, hot work, electrical, fall protection, contractor safety and lockout/tagout assessments
    • Conduct assessments for noise control and hearing conservation, respiratory protection, personal protective clothing choice, Ionizing and Non-Ionizing radiation safety, hazard communication and heat stress monitoring and control
    • Conduct incident investigations, root cause analysis, and risk assessments
  • Develops project document deliverable outlines and layouts, technical writing of reports, data interpretation, and development of graphical presentations in a logical and professional manner.
  • Tracks project hours and utilizes time efficiently to complete assigned tasks within assigned timeframe(s)
  • Communicates with Project Manager when potential issues are foreseen, or potential issues arise that may inhibit performing tasks within the allotted schedule and budget
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including attendance at all required safety training programs
  • Participate in the company's continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts
  • Keep up-to-date and current on industry trends by completing formal training, reviewing professional publications, and attend professional workshops
  • Perform other duties as assigned
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS degree in Industrial Hygiene or a related discipline (such as Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering) from an accredited college or university
  • 4-6 years occupational safety and health experience preferred (to include industrial hygiene surveys and sampling as well as safety program implementation).
  • Certifications: Occupational Health and Safety Technologist Certification (OHST) from Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) preferred or capable of acquiring
  • Hold or capable of acquiring Mold Assessor Certification.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH and NFPA programs
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work well under pressure with multiple deadlines
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to present to supervisors.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • This position can be physically demanding and will require work in various working environments/conditions which requires that an individual be physically capable of canvassing large project areas by foot on various terrain and potentially in inclement weather.
  • Work environment will vary greatly depending on nature of assigned tasks.
  • The position may involve local travel often, and occasional Continental U.S. travel required.
Pay: $40,000-$60,000/ year

Offers will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
