In an effort to bolster research collaboration, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative, self-motivated individual to fill the position of Grant Writer in the Office of Sponsored Programs. The incumbent for this position will play a lead role in developing competitive grant proposals for collaborative initiatives and institutional funding priorities. The ideal candidate will have excellent written communication skills articulating funding requirements while fulfilling the university's mission. Working with a team, the grant writer will often oversee the grant process from start to finish, including developing a competitive proposal ensuring that all compliance requirements are met - institutional and funder. Candidate will also develop and disseminate tools and templates in an effort to streamline the proposal development process, thereby minimizing the potential burden on faculty-led projects. The Grant Writer must have the ability to research and interpret funding regulations, guidelines, and standards. We anticipate this person will play a vital role in developing pre-award strategies that help increase institutional partnerships, create winning proposal submissions, and provide funding for each of TCSPP's nationwide campuses. This position will be location agnostic, requiring a person who can work independently and as part of a team. While the location is flexible, it is preferred that the ideal candidate overlap some working hours with Eastern Standard Time (EST)/Central Standard Time (CST) and show flexibility in meeting the needs of our colleagues in Pacific Time (PST). You will be part of a team that values integrity and supports each other in fulfilling departmental and institutional missions.

The ideal candidate will be well organized, resourceful, intuitive, and possess a high emotional and situational intelligence that will come in handy daily.

Principal Duties:

  • Play a lead role in identifying, researching, and developing proposals that move the institution's mission and vision forward, staying abreast of institutional priority areas.

  • Ability to research, write, and submit funding proposals in a clear, concise, and compelling manner to government, foundation, and other funding entities

  • Provide full life cycle writing support for grant submissions, including managing timelines, collecting data and information from a variety of sources, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders involved in the submission process.

  • Provide hands-on support to faculty, staff, and students seeking to secure funding for their research projects.

  • Will possess an ability to interpret and disseminate funding notices for lay personnel involved in the application process.

  • Assist in maintaining an annual calendar of proposal deadlines, reports, and related activities to ensure all pending deadlines are met.

  • Work collaboratively with various College departments to secure appropriate information in support of proposal submissions.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Prior experience working in an Office of Sponsored Programs is required.

  • Grant writing experience, preferably with an institution of higher education.

  • Have an ability to adapt to different collaboration styles.

  • A clear vision of how strategy, ideas, and implementation intersect.

  • Ideal experience should demonstrate a proven track record of securing new funding opportunities, comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities relevant to faculty, administrative staff, and institutional leadership.

  • Excellent written and verbal skills.

  • Highly organized with the ability to work independently with minimum supervision, exhibit independent judgment, implement systems and follow-up processes.

  • Proficiency in research, interpreting, and analyzing diverse data.

  • Excellent computer skills to include Microsoft Office, database management, and electronic research administration (eRA) skills.

  • Be a motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university, preferably in English or a related field.

  • An advanced degree in Psychology is a plus.

  • Minimum of seven years experience in higher education setting grant writing required.

  • Ability to proofread narrative proposal documentation, including logic, structure, clarity, syntax, and use of persuasion.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting tight deadlines.

  • Strong organization skills with excellent attention to detail.

  • Exhibits professionalism and the demeanor to represent TCSPP, especially with internal constituents.

  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive materials is required.

  • Familiarity with funders that support university research and programs is a plus.

Work Environment:

This is a full-time position. Work hours will vary depending on proposal and other institutional deadlines. Workweeks may exceed the standard 37.5 hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. The environment is occasionally fast-paced and deadline-driven.
