SUMMARY

Performs the physical and documentation inspection of all Dangerous Goods coming in through the Export and Import Departments to authorize or reject the conditions of it to be transported safely to its destination and monitors these materials until they reach their final destination. The Dangerous Goods Agent is also the first person to assist in the event of an emergency or accident caused by Dangerous Goods. Ensures security against accidents caused by improper storage, improper packaging, improper identification, and improper handling by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following, but not limited to:

  • Check the documentation and perform a physical inspection of the Dangerous Goods shipment coming in through the Export Receiving Area and Imports.
  • Move Dangerous Goods in and out of the Hazmat Containment Area or personally escort a second person if help is required.
  • Put on Hold shipments coming in through Imports with incomplete documentation or improper packaging until the shipper fixes the problem.
  • File all Dangerous Goods document copies as per Federal Aviation/Department of Transportation regulations (90-day file) and all relevant documents for local reference.
  • Carry on Warehouse Patrols in Export and Imports to assure that no Dangerous Goods are left in the warehouse and/ or stored as General freight instead of being in the Hazmat Containment Area, and identify those shipments that may be a Possible Dangerous Good by properly verifying with the Safety Data Sheet.
  • Assist & guide the Export/ Imports Warehouse by giving Hazmat requirements on how and where a Dangerous Good cargo should be placed on a pallet and inspect that the requirements are being properly followed.
  • Be the first to assist in case of an emergency and determine what actions must be taken.
  • Other assignments as requested by management.
  • IATA Certification Required; One Year Work Experience with IATA certification.


PERFORMANCE STANDARDS/MEASUREMENTS.
  • Accurate and quality inspection using IATA Dangerous Goods Checklist for acceptance.
  • Proper palletizing, handling & storage of Dangerous Goods.
  • Operate under IATA/ ICAO/ DOT regulations.
  • Meet company attendance policy.


QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or CERTIFICATION:
  • High School/ GED or equivalent certification.
  • IATA Category 6, awareness or equivalent certified

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of Dangerous Goods and Warehouse Environment.
  • Experience with computer, i.e., mainframe, PC, internet/intranet (Data entry) preferred.
  • Experience operating power Industrial machine (Forklift).


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:


  • A minimal of 2 years in acceptance and transportation of Hazardous Material/ Dangerous Goods.


SKILLS and/or ABILITIES:

  • Must have proficient computer skills.
  • Know how to read an SDS (Safety Data Sheet)
  • Navigate an IATA manual book
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be able to effectively work in a team environment.
  • Capable to Multitask
  • Ability to be cross-trained
  • Self-starter required must be able to work effectively with minimal to no supervision.

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, crawl, kneel, crouch or stoop. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 70lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
