Job Summary:

The Head of Corporate Underwriting and Quality Assurance will lead and oversee the underwriting and quality assurance functions within the North America Insurance organization. Reporting into the North America CUO, this role is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining underwriting policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and best practices. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting, risk assessment, and quality assurance within the Commercial Lines insurance industry.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

  • Lead and manage the Corporate Underwriting and Quality Assurance teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement, both within the team and across the broader underwriting community
  • Develop and implement strategic plans for the underwriting and quality assurance functions.
  • Mentor and develop staff, providing training and career development opportunities.

Underwriting Oversight:
  • Develop, implement, and oversee underwriting guidelines and standards.
  • Ensure underwriting decisions are made in accordance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor underwriting performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure underwriting practices align with overall business objectives.

Auditing and Quality Assurance:
  • Develop and maintain quality assurance programs to ensure the accuracy and consistency of underwriting decisions.
  • Conduct regular audits of underwriting files and processes.
  • Implement corrective actions based on audit findings and ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Prepare and present quality assurance reports to senior management.

Risk Management:
  • Identify, assess, and manage underwriting risks.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the risk management team to ensure alignment with overall risk management framework.

Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Stay updated on changes in regulations and adjust policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Liaise with regulatory bodies as needed.

Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to underwriting and quality assurance.
  • Provide regular reports and analysis to senior management on underwriting performance and quality assurance metrics.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement action plans.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. A master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, AIC, ARM) are preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in underwriting and quality assurance roles within the insurance industry.
  • Proven experience in a leadership or managerial role.
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting principles, risk assessment, and quality assurance practices.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in underwriting and quality assurance software and tools.
