Proficiency and certification in the operation of heavy highway maintenance equipment will result in eligibility for promotion to a Highway Maintenance Worker/Senior at $17.55 per hour.

Examples of Work
Operate trucks and other light equipment to complete highway maintenance work. Operate tractors with various attachments including disc, harrows, seeders, 15 foot mowers, sprayers and hand mowers to maintain highways and highway right of ways. Responsible for snow removal on an assigned section of highway. Must be able to operate trucks, Loaders, and road repair equipment. Will mow ROW using power hand mowers and tractors. Will operate post hole diggers and drivers and assist in snow fence installation and removal. Performs manual labor in concrete and asphalt patching and crack sealing. Controls traffic in and around maintenance projects. Loads and unloads materials and supplies. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment. Performs sign repair and maintenance. Performs varied maintenance functions such as Armor Coating and Hot Mix patching. Must be able to report to work for emergencies and snow removal within 45 minutes. Spray Noxious weeds.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 18 years of age, and possess a valid driver's license.

PREFERRED: Experience in the operation of heavy equipment or farming background. A valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with air brake and tanker endorsement. Commercial Pesticide applicator's license. Basic computer experience.

OTHER: A valid Class A Commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement is required within 6 months of employment. Required training and costs associated with obtaining the CDL will be paid for by the Department. Must be a safe worker that is team oriented. Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be able to safely move, drag, lift 35 pounds frequently, up to 60 pounds occasionally (without assistance), and 90 or more pounds infrequently (with assistance); climb, bend, stoop; work in outdoor temperature extremes and work around high speed traffic. Must be able to follow directions with minimal supervision. Must be able to read and communicate effectively to give and receive instructions. Must be able to report to work for snow and other highway emergencies within 45 minutes under normal driving conditions and be placed in an "on-call" status.
