Job Description Summary
The Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Coordinator is expected to perform all administrative coordination supporting IBC activities. Responsibilities for the IBC Coordinator include: processing of IBC protocols submissions for IBC review, preparing meeting agenda, meeting minutes and approval letters, coordinating and conducting outreach with the Human Gene Therapy study leads and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Review Board (IRB) committees, collaborating with the Biological Safety Officer (BSO) and biosafety team to manage risk assessments, consultations, and training with the research community, providing customer support for the IBC protocol submission computer platform - Penn IBC Electronic Registration System (PIERS) and follows up on a variety of research activities (e.g. ordering of recombinant vectors) for compliance with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Guidelines.

Bachelor of Science Degree and research background in Biomedical Research. Masters (MS), Doctorate (PhD) or graduate degree in health professions preferred. Individuals possessing credentials listed below, or adjacent experience, are encouraged to apply. Clinical research management or support credentials or eligibility (CRM, CRA, CIP, CCRC, CRC, MRA, RPM). Regulatory Affairs Specialists, IBC, IRB or IACUC management or coordination, Biosafety Professionals (RBP, CBSP), Public Health professionals (MPH), strong (3 to 5 years) gene editing, viral vector development or production experience, or any combination of the above.
Must possess high attention to detail with strong organization skills. Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills to interact with administration and direct faculty, study leads, IBC members, life science safety professionals and, as needed, clinical research staff participating in human gene transfer (HGT) research. Capable of providing impeccable customer service and possessing creative problem-solving skills. Responsibilities for this position can be adjusted depending on experience and background of the successful candidate.
