Position Title: Instructor/Lecturer - Fitness & Wellness

Department: Health Related Professions - West Campus

Starting Rate: Band 4 - $47,100 - $58,900

Closed Date: June 21, 2023, 5:00 PM Arizona Time

Position Summary:

Instruct FAW110 (Weight Training & CV Fitness) in the open lab setting by providing personal training, conducting fitness assessments, creating course assignments, sending weekly emails, monitoring the fitness center, and completing the administrative duties. Leads the delivery of FAW100 (Group Fitness Access) by creating activities, sending weekly promotional emails, and fulfilling the administrative duties.

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include working evenings and weekends and local travel.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads the delivery of the FAW110 and FAW100 courses (in-person, virtual, and online)
    • Create digital content on D2L, update syllabi, complete weekly attendance tracking, handle student issues, answer student emails regarding courses, evaluate student participation and satisfaction, assures program delivery complies with College policies
    • Submit NA grades, 45th day, final grades, and complete CLOs
    • FAW110: Instruct in the open lab setting, supervise fitness centers, develop individualized exercise prescriptions, conduct fitness assessments, and support FAW students, Pima employees, and community members in the fitness center facilities
    • FAW100: create assignments, send weekly emails promoting instructors and class types
    • Enter attendance into Attendance Tracking
    • Create weekly social media posts to promote FAW program
  • Provides instruction to all FAW participants on fitness and wellness topics, including but not limited to: resistance training, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, and nutrition within scope of practice
  • Provides health education promotion support to FAW students and program participants
  • Works with Advanced Program Coordinator to support operational aspects of program delivery

Job Requirements:
  • Vocational or technical training/certification in an educational field or a closely related field of study as and
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education or a closely related field of study and
  • Five years of related experience and
  • Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid and
  • Certified Personal Trainer through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
    • Examples: American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)
or
  • Master's degree in Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related area and
  • Tree years of instructional experience teaching open lab classes and live classes in the fitness area and
  • Certified in CPR/AED and First Aid and
  • Certified Personal Trainer through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
    • Examples: American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), American Council on Exercise (ACE), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA)
or
  • An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • Scientific principles of exercise training and fitness assessments
  • Resistance training and cardiovascular fitness program design
  • Instruct participants (personal training, assessments, consultations) in PCC fitness centers
  • Connect with students, staff, and faculty
  • Ensure high levels of customer service
  • Proficient with technology (software, programs, D2L)
  • Proficient with record-keeping and data management
  • Create individualized exercise prescriptions
  • Assess fitness status and movement patterns
  • Recognize problems, gather information, propose and/or implement solution
  • Work in a collaborative setting with a diverse group
  • Create weekly health promotion material
  • Proficient with written communication
