Purpose/Responsibility:
Assist plant lean manager in implementation and sustainment of lean projects and initiatives. Support, and
sometimes lead, kaizen teams to develop and implement improvements while striving to meet team goals.
Coordinate communication between the project teams and other levels of the plant, including production,
engineering, maintenance, materials, and training. Assist in training of project team members. Support and
lead, when necessary, the use of lean tools and practices with plant personnel. Support a safe and
productive work environment, including housekeeping, for all team members. Perform other tasks as
directed by the plant lean manager. Role model CITE principles. Overtime and weekend work may be
required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Learn new lean skills
• Encourage all team members to use lean and promote a positive attitude.
• Support project teams and plant team members in the completion of lean projects
• Lead lean events as needed
• Maintain Kaizen materials, tools and supplies
• Maintain lean communication board
• Maintain lean event database
• Develop standard work documents
• Perform 5S / standard work audits
• Backup the lean trainer as needed
• Provide weekly project status updates
• Complete individual plant training as required
• Other duties as assigned by the plant lean manager
COMMUNICATION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Lean Technician is required to be able communicate with all employees, at all levels through written
and oral communication. This communication may require presenting and teaching groups of people. They
must demonstrate effective daily communication with required plant personnel. Responsibilities also
include assisting the plant lean manager and training department with training employees.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
Education, Experience and Skills
• Minimum of 1 year of manufacturing experience
• Any experience with lean manufacturing is preferred, but not required
• Good attendance
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to lead small teams
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software: Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common operating documents such as production orders,
standard work documents, provisional standards, specification sheets, etc. Ability to actively
listen and communicate effectively with co-workers and customers/clients in an effort to respond
to common inquires or issues. Ability to communicate through oral presentation to groups of
people.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
to such tasks as interpreting specifications, production schedules, and other operating documents.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to identify and define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to use common problem solving tools, such as 5 Why and Fish Bone Diagrams, to clearly
understand and determine root causes and communicate effectively.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, kneel, bend,
twist, and walk. The employee must have the ability to make decisions of visual quality specifications.
The employee may also be required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
Employee must be able to identify different characteristics in wood products. The employee may be
required to lift up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Included are: class room and indoor manufacturing environment. The manufacturing environment noise
level is moderate to high and hearing protection is required. Safety glasses are required in the
manufacturing and maintenance environment and work gloves are recommended. Occasional overtime and
weekend work may be required. Temperature varies with the seasons.
