ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $101,000.00 - $124,000.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

The Systems Engineering Manager (referred to as \"The Manager\") will lead a team of Systems Engineers working in a hybrid (onsite/remote) environment. This team maintains and modernizes critical infrastructure hardware and servers for the entire city and Active Directory environment. The Manager will be part of the Management Team within the IT department and will guide short- and long-term strategy plans. They will partner with Information Security, Network Operations, and Data teams to improve the city's security posture, scalability, resiliency, and sustainability. The Manager will work with various city departments to help create and mature IT policies and procedures.

Responsibilities of The Manager include managing medium to large-scale Systems Engineering projects and scheduling and directing their team's activities and workloads. This includes providing exceptional leadership, creating strong team dynamics, managing performance and professional development. The Manager will also be responsible for ensuring team compliance with all IT and City processes, procedures, guidelines, and policies.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing a team of similar size in similar technical domains. Preference will be given to candidates with active certifications in Information Security (i.e., SEC+, GSEC, CISSP, etc.) and ITIL4 Foundations training. This position will report to the Senior Manager of Information Technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
  • Manage server & storage team in accordance with the organization's values and objectives, including performance evaluations, resource allocation and training
  • Provide leadership for the technical team's day-to-day operations and participate in strategic, technical, and architectural decisions
  • Provide outstanding customer service leadership in handling incident responses and service requests
  • Provide oversight, delegation and coordination of team resources in departmental and enterprise IT projects
  • Lead and/or participate in new technology evaluations, standards development and process improvement projects
  • Provide team/project updates and subject matter expertise to the Infrastructure Services Director
  • Build successful working relationships within Infrastructure Services division, the IT department and across the organization
  • Participate in tactical management activities including work plan development, project assignments, budget preparation, new technology specs and evaluations, contract negotiation, and RFP preparation and analysis.
  • Facilitate and participate in team meetings, project meetings, departmental and service area staff meetings
  • Provide leadership in maintenance weekend activities and facilitate meetings with system owners to communicate and set expectations
  • Manage change, minimize change impacts through planning and effective communication
  • Manage and coordinate the team's participation in major upgrades that keep the City's technology fresh and current
  • Manages the disaster recovery and backup processes for servers.

Required Qualifications

MinimumPreferredCollege degree or equivalent work experience. Some positions may require functionally related certification or advanced degrees Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a related field from an accredited college or university

  • Minimum three years related experience, including progressively escalating responsibility within the information technology field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
