Job Description Summary:
As the Managing Editor of the PayPal Business Resource Center (BRC), you'll own the content strategy, creative development and performance of PayPal's thought leadership destination for SMBs. You'll be responsible for building top-of-funnel content that drives organic, inbound traffic to PayPal and working to maximize the performance of the BRC as a marketing channel. Working closely with our search agencies and internal teams, you'll identify key SEO themes to prioritize, build content plans, brief creative resources on the plan, manage the content development process end-to-end, optimize content and links, and report back on performance. You'll also partner with the Integrated Marketing team to conceptualize, build, and publish content that maximizes the impact of our always-on programs - primarily on owned channels like the BRC and social platforms.

To excel in this role, you must be a whole-brain marketer - equal parts strategist and creative thinker. Equally important, you must approach your work with a collaborative spirit. You'll partner with teammates across the company who will be both contributors to and consumers of your work, so you must work well with all personality types.

Job Description:

Primary Job Responsibilities

Strategy
  • Consult with PayPal internal and external partners on editorial guidelines and opportunities
  • Develop the content strategy for the Business Resource Center, in close collaboration with the SEO and website teams as well as marketing stakeholders
  • Act as channel and editorial lead for the Business Resource Center, including reviewing and prioritizing content requests, planning and maintaining the BRC content calendar and budget, editing all content on site, and maximizing content performance
  • Conduct audience research to understand and share audience insights, determine which topics will best reach them, and improve content engagement
  • Implement best practices, workflows, tools,and templates to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the publishing process
  • Work closely with comms, partner, product, and marketing teams to create content plans against key initiatives that drive awareness and consideration for PayPal solutions through organic search channels

Execution
  • Lead end-to-end content development for SEO-related themes - from sourcing SMEs and engaging writers, to managing internal reviews and publishing content on relevant channels
  • Staff writers, designers, producers and editorsagainst each content project
  • Partner with Integrated Marketing Lead for Western Europe to localize and publish content on local BRC sites
  • Work with the web marketing team to create a seamless customer journey, including cross-linking between pages
  • Continually test and optimize content to maximize engagement and improve search performance
  • Act as a subject-matter expert for unbranded SEO content
  • Lead creative teams in briefing and driving content development to support Integrated Marketing campaigns
  • Become a subject-matter expert in SearchMetrics and other PayPal-approved SEO platforms
  • Work with search agencies to conduct annual and quarterly keyword planning

Tracking & Measurement
  • Partner with analytics teams to deliver monthly & quarterly reporting on content performance, as well as with oursearch agencies to report onrankings
  • Develop insights and optimization plans based on performance trends

Experience and Skills
  • 8-10 years of editorial experience in either an agency or in-house setting
  • Experience managing teams of freelancers and vendors to develop best-in-class content on time and on budget
  • Unmatched editing and writing skills - a writing sample will be requested
  • Superior knowledge of SEO best practices
  • Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills with senior leaders, peers, internal and external partners
  • You can drive people nuts by being so detail-oriented, but they thank you later (not only because you make sure everything is covered, but also because people like you enough to actually thank you later. See the bullet above).
  • You'll craft content for some of PayPal's most influential and dynamic solutions, so you need to demonstrate innovative thinking that does justice to our innovative solutions
  • You'll adjust quickly to shifting approaches, situations, and priorities
  • You'll prioritize simultaneous deadlines across multiple teams
  • You must be able to think strategically, but balance that with a strong pragmatic streak
  • You must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to work with little direction
  • PayPal is a dynamic, fast-paced company; a track record working in similarly fluid industries and under tight timelines is a plus
  • Experience marketing to SMBs preferred
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree or equivalent experience preferred
