The Mobile Materials Handling group of Nordco a Wabtec Company, a customer focused business utilizing continuous improvement and creative thinking to foster a culture of exceeding customers' expectations, is looking for a Manufacturing Engineer.

This position is responsible for the development and improvement of the manufacturing processes in the plant by utilizing continuous improvement methodology.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing processes and methods for low-volume, high-mix manufacturing/assembly environment
  • Create standard work, run Kaizen events, Problem Solving, Line Balancing, Poka-Yoke, Supplier Development, Product/Process Variation reduction, Waste reduction, Visual Management Design for Manufacturing/assembly
  • Use Lean Principles to analyze and plan work force utilization, line balancing, space requirements and workflow for maximum efficiency and flow
  • Design layout of work flow and material flow to create "pull" systems for inventory replenishment and process flow
  • Collaborate with product engineering, purchasing and suppliers to Poka-Yoke and reduce variability within manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Leads projects independently to completion, often times with little direct authority
  • Use root cause analysis and other scientific problem solving methods to reduce variability in product and process

Education
  • BS Degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or other Manufacturing Technology discipline required

Experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment - low volume/high mix preferred
  • 2-3 years of LEAN experience preferred

Technical Skills
  • Proficient in leading continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing and cost reduction initiatives
  • Proficient in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft products and operating systems
  • Ability to clearly write reports and business correspondence.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees and customers.
  • Requires mechanical aptitude and extensive knowledge of machinery
