MOCHA/WOCHA is a collaborative partnership between the local Charlottesville/Albemarle school systems and the University of Virginia's Division for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DDEI). The programs are open to students of any race or ethnicity, but have been created with a unique lens to target youth of color. MOCHA/WOCHA seeks to provide personal, academic, cultural, social, professional, and leadership development to middle, high school, and undergraduate students in an effort to positively impact academic success, increase retention, and develop successful leaders of tomorrow.

DDEI seeks a MOCHA/WOCHA Program Manager to provide direct supervision, coordination, and administration of the programs, with the following specific responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement program calendar/curricula, activities, and events. Attend and at times lead workshops, trainings, and sessions with program participants.
  • Coordinate and facilitate meetings, agenda, and team check-ins to track progress on program goals.
  • Supervise program liaisons in the schools and work with them to organize program recruitment and selection process.
  • Coordinate and execute recruitment and selection process for undergraduate students at UVA.
  • Conduct Individual Development Plan (IDP) meetings with participants (once per semester).
  • Where appropriate, develop, recruit, select, and engage a MOCHA Advisory Board.
  • In collaboration with DDEI's Director of Communications, produce and distribute communications assets including website content, social media, and digital and printed materials.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and collaborations in the local community and at UVA.
  • In collaboration with DDEI's Assistant Director for Assessment and Data Analytics, plan, implement, and summarize project assessments and evaluations (both formative and summative).
    • Create annual impact report (based on assessment and evaluation outcomes).


  • Bachelor's degree required with at two years of experience. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience with youth programming, education, and/or mentoring.
  • Experience with successful program administration, time management, and prioritization of tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully engage, recruit, and motivate students to participate in the program.
  • Work or volunteer experience related to the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and/or social justice.
  • Demonstrated awareness and understanding of intercultural competence in diverse settings.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work in a team-oriented environment.

This position is located in Charlottesville, VA.

This position is for three years and is a restricted position, with the possibility of extension depending upon project need, availability of funding and performance.
