The University of Virginia seeks a Trauma Counselor to join the Counseling and Wellness team at the Maxine Platzer Lynn Women's Center. Founded in 1989, the Women's Center is an academic support unit at the University of Virginia. Mental Health Therapists provide clinical mental health services (evaluation, diagnosis, and individual and group psychotherapy) to clients of the UVA Maxine Platzer Lynn Women's Center. They provide case management for their clients, including making referrals for necessary services, and assist with care management duties. They also have outreach and wellness responsibilities. The position requires expertise and experience in the role of cultural, racial, gender and sexual identity in mental health, as well as experience/training working with issues of interpersonal violence, trauma, and related psychological issues, such as depression, anxiety, disordered eating, and substance misuse.

Job Description:

  • Provide clinical mental health services (evaluation, diagnosis, and individual and group therapy).

  • Provide case management for clients, including care coordination and referrals.

  • Coordinate with academic, Title IX and other UVA support services as necessary.

  • Maintain case notes and other documentation.

  • Assist with the Counseling Program care management and management of the wait list.

  • Contribute to outreach and wellness programming.

  • Participate in continuing education, conferences, and other professional development activities.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Clinical or Counseling psychology

  • One-two years of experience providing individual psychotherapy to adolescents or adults in a college setting, including work with minority/under-represented identities.

  • Current licensure as an LPC or LCSW in the State of Virginia; Virginia-licensed LPC residents who have completed at least 1500 hours of face-to-face counseling in a Virginia residency will also be considered.

  • Training in evidence-based approaches for helping college populations such as Motivational interviewing, CBT, EMDR, or Seeking Safety.

Physical Demands:
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

As a student-facing support unit, the Women's Center is working in-person; staff members have the option to work remotely 40% of the week at this time.
