Overview

Lead the Engineering Model Shop to support the creation of Commercial strength and cardio fitness equipment. Lead, coordinate, and effectively utilize all shop equipment and resources in a manner that optimizes product quality and maximizes efficiency. Provide direction, training, and guidance to assigned employees.

Primary Responsibilities

• Work from parts, prints or sketches and verbal instructions to fabricate parts.
• Provides work direction, training, and guidance to assigned personnel in order to ensure full understanding and compliance with, prescribed methods and procedures.
• Monitors work quality and productivity throughout the shop to ensure a quality product is produced in the allotted time frame.
• Works closely with Engineering Manager and engineers to ensure prompt, effective responses to requirements and timely exchange of accurate information.
• Keeps management informed of important developments, potential problems or delays, and related information necessary for effective shop management.
• Tracks job progress in the Life Fitness Lifetrack system.
• Develops and complies with shop procedures.
• Works with Engineering staff to ensure a coordinated work effort and "team" approach.
• Determines best machining and or fabrication process to reach desired outcome.
• Write programs for CNC machines.
• Prioritizes incoming jobs to ensure on time delivery of projects
• Maintain a clean and organized shop and office area.
• Maintain and/or coordinate maintenance for all shop tools, machines and equipment.
• Orders raw materials and shop tools as required to complete submitted jobs.
• Conform to the company Safety and Quality systems as documented.
• Coordinates with Ramsey and Owatonna model shop supervisors to distribute overflow jobs.

Required Skills, Abilities, and Knowledge

Excellent written, verbal communication Skills.

Ability to organize and prioritize many projects at once.

Very strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of shop math.

Ability to interpret Engineering drawings and specifications.

Possesses the ability to reverse engineer parts and use that information to select best process for fabrication.

Ability to efficiently run Manual and CNC mills, manual Lathe, Raise 3D printer as well as miscellaneous power and hand tools. Proficient in Gibbs Software.

Education

Minimum of a 2-year Vocational program in Machine Tool Technology or related area and/or equivalent experience.

Experience

At least 5 years of machining set-up and operating experience in a job shop environment related to metal fabrication and welding. Demonstrated leadership experience in professional or volunteer organizations.
