You are applying for a position within Site Reliability Organization (SRE) in PayPal. This team of SRE's is passionately focused on ensuring the best PayPal customer experience, by helping teams with automated Devops enablement.

Job Description:

Roles and Responsibilities:

PayPal eSRE (embedded Site Reliability Engineering) is an engineering discipline that effectively combines continuous software development and systems engineering to build and run scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant systems. eSRE always strives to ensure that PayPal's internal and external services have reliability and uptime appropriate to the best in class industry standards. At the core, we care about the reliability of our systems that impact our external customers.

We ensure continuous improvements, while keeping an ever-watchful eye, preferably automated, on capacity and performance of our systems.

PayPal eSRE is a scaleable implementation of the Devops mindset which strives to use software engineering to build and run better production systems. You will write software to optimize day to day work through better automation, monitoring, alerting, testing and deployment. Blameless postmortem analysis of live issues and ensuring the learnings address the root case pattern permanently is a topic very close to our heart.

You will enable the product development teams to adopt to automated Devops mindset that you build.

We work with functional teams to understand their pain points and

build infrastructure automation to reduce toil build related monitoring and alerting tools build efficiencies to reduce time to market, reduce mean time to detect and mean time to resolve optimize their production environments triage and trouble shoot live issues help identify logging issues and bad instrumentation drive to align with PayPal's best-in-class infra enable high class performance of their services

Last but not the least, this role requires you to be highly proficient in communication. The roles require influencing leaders to understand the overall Devops spectrum, adopt them to the Devops culture, and scale the esre model across PayPal. Along with that, you will be expected to provide technical leadership for a small team with limited guidance from management. A strong understanding of business domain and emerging understanding of how the domain interacts with other domains would be much needed to effectively design technical solutions.

Requirements:

You have the desire to take PayPal to the next level. BS degree in Computer Science or related technical field involving coding (e.g., physics or mathematics), or equivalent practical experience. Minimum of 6-8 years of hands on experience in any layer of the tech stack. Expertise in multiple open source programming / scripting languages: Java, Python, Node. Expertise in modern database interactions and concepts. Strong understanding and working knowledge of networking principles:

Devops operation and maintenance.

Expertise using Linux command line Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis and software design. Strong debugging and problem-solving skills Self-starter with excellent communication skills. Established record working in

fast paced changing environment, large scale applications across the stack.
