As the Nurse Manager you'll be responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the effective and efficient use of health and medical related services in our Children's Crisis Psychiatric Care (Subacute) program to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, accrediting bodies (CARF) and nursing practice standards. Additionally, you'll assume the authority, responsibility and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in Subacute. The Nurse Manager collaborates with other programs, medical professionals, consultants and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups to develop, support, and coordinate care related to administrative functions and to represent the interests of the organization. This position manages Registered Nurses (RNs).

Essential Duties

  • Leads, directs and monitors the delivery of healthcare and related health and medical services and provides direct supervision to the RNs in Subacute.
  • Participates in planning, developing and implementing policies and procedures that enhance the quality of life of the children and families receiving services and ensures compliance by employees.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations, accrediting bodies and nursing practice standards.
  • Evaluates service needs and staffing requirements to meet program needs.
  • Oversees scheduling of nursing staff to ensure adequate coverage for the programs.
  • Develops and implements healthcare related training that ensures the best possible delivery of health related supports and services. Reviews training annually and makes modifications as needed.
  • Develops and maintains nursing protocols to ensure safe and efficient care and that documentation requirements are maintained.
  • Oversees the Infection Control program including planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrates understanding of children's mental health, developmental disabilities, and family dynamics.
  • Acts as liaison with contracted pharmacy.
  • Obtains state license for Licensed Children Emergency Safety Intervention Specialist (LCESIS).
  • Performs LCESIS duties as assigned.
  • Completes staff evaluations in a timely manner.
  • Monitors Nursing expenditures and oversight of program resources.
  • Be available to employees for consultation and problem solving, communicating to multi-disciplinary team members, and Director as needed.
  • Perform job responsibilities of RN level nursing staff as needed.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
  • Ability to provide 24-hour crisis response as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Possess a current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon, and maintain good standing with the Oregon State Board of Nursing.
  • At least two years of professional nursing practice with related experience in the mental health field.
  • At least three years of experience in nursing administration or management.
  • Possess strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accrediting bodies and nursing practice standards.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and identify possible solutions.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals, internal and external customers.
  • Ability to meet agency driver's insurance standards and be approved as an authorized driver of agency vehicles.
  • Ability to stand and sit with frequent periods of walking short distances within the organization, with frequent periods of bending from the waist and knees: frequent periods of reaching from the waist to shoulder levels and moderate periods of twisting from side to side at waist, and moderate periods of carrying normal household supplies and small equipment items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Possess basic reading, writing, and mathematical skills necessary to complete or utilize the records and forms required of this position.
  • Ability to keep accurate and appropriate records/documentation.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries coworkers as well as with the children and families served.
  • Ability to work in an atmosphere in which people may be hostile or verbally abusive.
  • Ability to perform duties with very little day-to-day direction or supervision given.
