Job Summary/Basic Function:

About This Role: Reporting to the Assistant Director of Outreach, the Scholarships and Outreach Sr. Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating communication about scholarship opportunities as well as scholarship and financial aid outreach. This position will assist in the recruitment and retention efforts of presidential scholars, the most prestigious full ride scholarship for Lamar University. The Presidential scholarship has over 150 applications each year, all that need to be interviewed and recruited by a large selection committee. The process needs to be coordinated with multiple units across campus. The Scholarship and Outreach Sr. Program Coordinator will be a resource to financial aid counselors, including veterans, regarding benefits processes. Furthermore, this position will expand a robust marketing and web strategy for the entire office of Scholarships, Financial aid and Veteran Affairs by working directly with the enrollment marketing and creative services office. Position Duties:

  • Work with undergraduate and graduate prospective and current students and their families from diverse backgrounds,
  • Educate students and their families on federal, local and institutional aid programs. Assist students to understand the financial aid process and how to apply for aid and scholarships.
  • Help students understand their financial aid award to support the admissions and retention goals of the campus.
  • Understand financial aid life cycle and appropriate communications to students and actions required by students at each stage.
  • Articulate integration of admissions and financial aid life cycles and clarify differences to prospective and admitted students.
  • Liaison with Enrollment Marketing and Creative Services to create materials and web design for the purpose of outreach and communication.
  • Collaborate with entire office on enhancing and maintaining website in order to better service internal and external customers.
  • Prepare materials for and attend recruiting events to present financial aid and scholarship opportunities to prospective students
  • Attend FAFSA nights at local high schools and community college campuses.
  • Assist external community members who inquire about financial aid programs and aid opportunities.
  • Attend professional workshops/training as needed to maintain knowledge of federal student financial aid programs and scholarship opportunities.
  • Coordinate LU presidential scholarship committee and manage the scholarship and awards process.
  • Set up scholarship application process from interviews to communication.
  • Work closely with the welcome center and admissions staff on perspective student outreach.
  • Track payments for outside scholarships. Monitor scholarship disbursements and balance scholarship fund.
  • Responsible for collecting and rendering decisions on scholarship appeals

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in field of choice from regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of one year of professional experience working with financial aid, scholarships, veterans' services or other student support services at a College or University.
  • Ability to work with and counsel diverse students, parents, and community members
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in public speaking and development of presentation materials.
  • Perform work with accuracy, attention to detail and confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in adapting to changing conditions: partner with others to accomplish tasks.
  • Successful experience working within a diverse team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with computer supported systems.
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service.
