DUTIES

  • Inspect, clean, and paint diesel electric locomotives, rail cars, and well cars.
  • Operate paint and blast equipment on uneven and elevated surfaces.
  • Safely set up and utilize tools, materials, and equipment within job area to maximize efficiencies.
  • Inspect the paint related areas, assess problems, and determine corrective actions. Diagnose, repair, and maintain equipment as required.
  • Handle, store, and dispose waste materials in compliance with Waste Streams Management Standard Operating Procedure.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Medically cleared to safely wear a respirator by a physician or licensed health care professional. Wear personal protective equipment such as hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses and steel toe boots.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance. Regular standing, walking, grasping, stooping, bending, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time.
  • Regular ascending/descending stairs and ladders. Enter/exit locomotives and rail cars/well cars. Work on a ladders and scaffolding with use of hand tools. Carry or hold materials.
  • Ability to perform work on uneven and elevated surfaces, and from various heights, includes conducting inspections and repairs on top of locomotives and rail cars/well cars.
  • Ability to perform work in conditions that include loud noises, confined spaces, hot and cold environments, fumes, dust, and on and around heavy moving machinery.
  • Ability to crawl and perform work in tight spaces with use of hand tools and carrying or holding materials.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment such as welder, hand tools, measuring instruments, overhead crane, and forklift.
  • Ability to use arms and hands to perform activities involving carrying, holding, grasping, twisting/turning, and pushing/pulling and reaching above shoulder level.
  • Understand chemical properties of paint and how to mix and apply paints as directed.

REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Fluency in reading, speaking, and understanding English
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be open to working rotating shifts
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Able to read and understand technical manuals, work reports, and schematics or drawings
    Good problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) O.E.M. maintenance instructions and procedures
    Knowledge of (or ability to quickly learn) Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules
  • Able to read and understand safety and environmental rules, technical manuals, work reports, specifications, schematics, and drawings. Follow oral instructions to determine work assignments and materials and equipment needs.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.
  • Ability to work overtime to support production demands.
