Summary of Duties:

A Plant Technician 1 position is available immediately to utilize novel technologies to support research in the Genomics and Biotechnology program which has published their research in highly reputed journals and has several granted patents. The individual will be engaged in a project under faculty member's supervision as well as work directly with graduate students, including processing and sampling of fruit samples, post-harvest analysis of fruit, maintenance and preparation of tissue culture materials for several projects, preparation of media and reagents, assistance with greenhouse and field work with fruit trees, glassware cleaning and autoclaving.


Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduation OR equivalent AND two years of work experience in plant research, plant propagation, OR related work; OR equivalent education/experience.

  • Experience with post-harvest fruit handling and processing, initiating and maintaining plant explants in tissue culture.

  • Knowledge and good practice of aseptic and laboratory techniques.

  • Knowledge of Biosafety level 1 requirements. Knowledge of greenhouse and laboratory safety procedures.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in a plant science related discipline.

Monthly Salary:

Range 32, $2,612.00 - $3,370.00 - Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 or applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

This is a project position and is expected to end on June 30, 2023. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension to complete the project.
