Examples of Work
Ensures compliance with military, federal, and state safety standards, codes and requirements.

Conducts plumbing activities on Nebraska Air National Guard facilities and supporting infrastructure consisting of over $560M in Real Property Assets.

Receives planned, urgent, and emergency work orders to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures, utilities, and distribution systems.

Conducts inspections of all related infrastructure and initiates work orders in iEMS to correct deficient items related to the plumbing systems to include: domestic water supply, fire suppression systems, mechanical systems, sanitary systems, and irrigation systems.

Performs specialized preventative maintenance duties to include backflow inspections and tests, emergency eyewash maintenance, water heater and water fountain maintenance, air compressor maintenance, and pumping underground pits. Inspects plumbing systems in accordance with preventive maintenance schedules.

Evaluates and updates preventative maintenance steps on current and newly installed real property to prolong life cycle of equipment.

Enters real property status records into the required maintenance system (iEMS and BUILDER) for tracking historical work and forecasting future maintenance and replacement of equipment.

Manages shop tools and equipment inventory to ensure accountability of state property.

Attends project meetings for current and future construction projects, provides recommendations for repairs, new installations, and future projects to be planned.

Estimates time, cost, and materials required for the completion of work orders.

Maintains inventory of shop stock materials and parts, requisitions materials as necessary. Tracks and enters time spent against work orders to show cost analysis.

Operates and maintains shop vehicles and equipment. Operates other heavy equipment when needed.

Obtains proper permits to accomplish work to be completed.

Other duties as assigned to include escorting contractors, snow removal operations, assisting other CE crafts persons.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Training and experience in the plumbing trade.

PREFERRED: Associate's degree or equivalent vocational education in plumbing, construction, or other maintenance trade and one year of experience OR three years' experience in skilled maintenance, construction, or plumbing trades and experience leading/directing others in such work. Grade Six License.

Special Note: Certain positions may require possession of current Journeyman Plumber license according to local ordinances or occupational/work codes.
Certain positions may require possession of a valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the practices, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of the plumbing trade; the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the plumbing trade; preventative maintenance on plumbing systems; the installation, operation, and repair of water, gas, and waste systems; the use and design of various plumbing fixtures and connections; types, sizes, and uses of plumbing materials such as pipes, valves, fittings, metals, caulking, packing, and gaskets; the maintenance of water, gas, and interior waste distribution and collection systems; applicable plumbing codes; material and equipment costs.

Skill in Installing and repairing plumbing fixtures and systems.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, layout designs, and specifications; use, operate and care for tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; understand and follow written and oral instructions; perform complex plumbing installations and repairs; determine appropriate installation and repair procedures; make accurate estimates of time, cost, and materials required to complete a work order; requisition materials, supplies, and equipment needed for plumbing jobs.
