Job Description Summary:

Under direction of the Production Support Manager, review, approve, and process reservation requests for the equipment checkout center, "Goldroom", for all levels of production. Coordinate with the Equipment Room Supervisor and Dodge administration to determine appropriate equipment packages for various classes. Apply fines for loss or damaged equipment. Coordinate out-of-house equipment repairs with a variety of vendors for equipment in the areas of camera, sound, grip, and lighting. Perform basic repairs in-house if possible, and schedule routine maintenance as necessary. Organize and lead occasional instructional seminars for equipment usage to students and faculty. During certain times of the year, scheduled weekend hours may be expected to provide for the appropriate exchange or repair of equipment. Provide support to the Equipment Room Supervisor as needed in hiring and training student employees. This position will also provide support to the Production Support Manager as needed. Other duties as assigned.


  • Review, approve, and process equipment requests in our reservation software, WebCheckout. Communicate with students regarding revisions to reservations as well as scheduled pickup and drop-off times. Answer questions about equipment packages available for certain classes and levels of production.
  • Maintain and repair production equipment in camera, sound, grip and electric departments. Maintain relationships with repair vendors, schedule and track out-of-house repairs. Clean and service equipment as needed. Pull and return reservations for student productions. Inspect and evaluate equipment upon return. Assist students with questions during their equipment prep.
  • Process new equipment purchases and prepare it for checkout by integrating it into our reservation system, tagging and labeling, and packaging.
  • Assist the Equipment Room Supervisor with hiring and training student staff. Create weekly schedules and track hours/expenses.
  • Provide additional support to Production Support Manager and Equipment Room Supervisor as needed. Assist with setup of various events.
Required Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of functionality of all production equipment including, but not limited to film and video cameras and lenses, lighting and grip equipment and production sound equipment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with diverse individuals at all organizational levels, both inside and outside of the university.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others in complex situations.
  • Exceptionally detail oriented while maintaining high volume of work with quick turnaround
  • Strong writing skills for communicating with supervisors, faculty, staff, and vendors
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and adapt to frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to use tact and to maintain confidentiality in both oral and written communications.
  • Strong computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Outlook.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in repair and maintenance of production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of film & television production
  • Undergraduate Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of WebCheckout reservation software
