The Stuart Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a full-time, tenured professor to lead the Department of Architecture as Chair, beginning in July 2023.

The School seeks a dynamic chair with a clear vision for the future of the field, proven leadership abilities, and extensive academic administrative experience, who can contribute to the 21st Century strategic vision of the Weitzman School through collaboration with the Dean, other department and program leaders, faculty, students, and staff. Individuals with an established reputation, intellectual and design leadership in architecture and education as evidenced in a distinguished record of teaching, professional accomplishment, scholarship, and/or research, are encouraged to apply. The Department of Architecture aims to prepare leaders in design and scholarship who produce substantive impact around the world and are committed to building a discipline that better reflects the diversity of those communities.

The Weitzman School of Design seeks to build a culturally diverse and pluralistic faculty committed to teaching and working in a multicultural environment. Candidates are encouraged to describe how diverse, underrepresented, and global perspectives are incorporated into their teaching, research, and practice. Applications from women and people of color are strongly encouraged.

The University of Pennsylvania was founded in 1740 by Benjamin Franklin to create a place that would offer practical as well as theoretical instruction in order to prepare students for real-world pursuits—a tradition that persists today. The Department of Architecture has approximately 350 students in seven degree programs, from an undergraduate major to graduate professional, post-professional, and doctoral degrees. Architecture is one of the Weitzman School's six distinguished academic programs, which include Landscape Architecture, City Planning, Fine Arts, Urban Spatial Analytics, and Historic Preservation. The Weitzman School has a rich tradition of intellectual leadership in architecture and a reputation for excellence in design, history, theory, representation, and technology, as well as for integrative studios and programs, cutting edge research, and community-based applications.
