Work location: This position can be remote or, if local to the area, can be remote, onsite 100% or a combination of onsite and remote. The ACT Headquarters office is located in Iowa City, Iowa.
We are seeking an entry level Psychometrician (new Ph.D. or candidate with experience) to join our expanding Research team and contribute to the establishment of ACT's authority as a trusted leader in the field of educational research and to increasing the efficacy and equity of our products and solutions. The Psychometrician position will support solutions for our flagship products as well as research, design and development of next generation assessments that facilitate adaptability and personalization by leveraging digital technologies, new measurement models and digital data sources.
What you will be working on:
This could be the job for you if you have (minimum requirements):
- Provide psychometric support including test construction, field test design and item analysis, equating design and analysis, and score comparability research
- Conduct, interpret, and present the results of scaling, equating, calibration, and other psychometric and research studies for ACT products and services
- Prepare technical and/or interpretive materials for ACT products and services
- Under guidance of senior staff, lead the planning and execution of qualitative and quantitative analyses in support of ACT products and services
- Create and maintain technical specifications and documentation for the psychometric processes and procedures related to the ACT and related assessment programs
- Increase visibility of ACT Research through contributions to staff publications, presentations, and presence across relevant national and international research communities
It's a plus if you have:
- One year of experience in research, educational measurement and/or psychometrics; relevant experience can be gained through coursework, projects, internships and/or on-the job experience
- Solid computer programming skills in R, SAS, or Python
- Familiarity with IRT software packages including Bilog, FlexMIRT, Winsteps, etc.
- Solid conceptual understanding of psychometrics and ability to apply knowledge gained through coursework, projects, internships and/or on-the-job experience
- Doctoral degree in educational measurement, educational psychology, quantitative psychology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
- Collaboration - work effectively with individuals within the organization by participating on cross-functional teams that focus on creating an open and innovative environment
- Communication - ability to communicate effectively across all levels in the organization
- Change management - ability to manage change and navigate positively in an environment experiencing change at a fast pace
- Initiative - uses self-starter approach, ability to multi-task, proactively anticipates and acts on information and details needed, willingness and ability to learn
- Self-development - remain current in area of expertise, seeks opportunities to expand and grow skills
- Experience working in an Agile work environment and/or knowledge of Agile methodology
- Experience working in the assessment industry
