Job Summary/Basic Function:
To recruit new students to Boise State in support of the enrollment goals of the University.
Department Overview:
The Admissions Counselor is a part of a dynamic team whose primary responsibility is to recruit new students to Boise State in support of the enrollment goals of the University. This position is often the first point of contact with prospective students and requires extensive knowledge of university stakeholders, programs and policies. A significant role within this position is the management of a recruitment territory, requiring travel throughout the year. It is crucial to provide quick and accurate customer service to prospective students, families, independent counselors, and high school career counselors. A positive attitude, commitment to higher education, and passion for Boise State are all necessary to be successful in this role.

This position is based in the Idaho Falls-Pocatello area, and will work from a home office

Level Scope:
Entry-level professional with limited or no prior experience to contribute on a project or work team. Incumbent learns to use professional concepts to resolve problems of limited scope and complexity under close supervision while achieving day-to-day objectives. Works on developmental assignments that are initially routine in nature, requiring limited judgment and decision making. This level is typically focused on self-development. Requires theoretical knowledge through specific education and training.
Essential Functions:
60% of time the Regional Admissions Counselor will:

  • Counsel, advise and maintain positive contact with prospective students and families regarding admission requirements, financial aid and scholarships, and campus life.
  • Travel in the Eastern and Magic Valley areas of Idaho with additional recruitment territories to be determined.
  • Represent Boise State at recruitment events, college fairs, high school and community college visits and individual meetings.
  • Establish and cultivate working relationships with community groups, high school contacts, parents and Boise State student organizations and staff.
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of various recruitment events.
  • Conduct presentations to students and parents ranging in size (1 to upwards of 500).
  • Effectively use University data systems in order to provide high quality customer service, execute campus visits and analyze data to make effective decisions.
35% of the time the Regional Admissions Counselor will:
  • Initiate, plan, and execute event programming and special projects focused on specific territories and populations.
  • Conduct market research to recommend and establish marketing plans for specific target groups to advertise features and benefits of attending Boise State.
  • Cultivate and maintain gathering of academic information from Colleges and other university departments.
5% of the time the Regional Admissions Counselor:
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Boise State admission policies and procedures and maintain an up-to-date understanding of any changes or updates
  • Understanding of programs, events, academic departments and student services on campus
  • Ability to clearly and specifically communicate the intricacies of the process to prospective students
  • Ability to speak publicly and make presentations
  • Ability to provide positive and efficient customer service
  • Skilled in using a variety of methodologies to recruit students
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of independent judgment when working with various
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:
• 1-3 years experience in college or university admissions
• Knowledge of Issues pertaining to student housing, orientation and financial aid Salary and Benefits:
Salary starts at $44,574.40 commensurate with experience.
