Research Associate in Computational Microscopy -- Cancer Center
Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH)

Boston, Massachusetts

This job has expired.

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Translational Research Imaging Core is a group dedicated to facilitating world class cancer research using cutting-edge tissue staining and quantitative digital image analysis. We are a part of the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and the newly formed Tumor Cartography Center. We are focused on combining the latest advances in protein and RNA biomarker staining with quantitative digital microscopy analytics to understand cancer biology.

In partnership with the pioneering labs of Dr. Daniel Haber, Dr. Shyamala Maheswaran, and Dr. Mehmet Toner, (https://haber-maheswaran-lab.mgh.harvard.edu) we are working to develop methods to isolate circulating tumor cells (CTCs) within peripheral blood utilizing innovative techniques in microfluidics and imaging. CTCs within human blood has the potential to be used for early non-invasive detection of cancers and targeted treatment.

As a critical member of the team, the candidate will assist in development of biomarker staining panels, staining and imaging of biological specimens, and downstream computational image analysis using high-end commercial analysis software and computational languages such as R or Python. These skills can be learned on the job. The technician will be closely supervised by the core facility director but will have the opportunity to perform self-directed work by contributing to hypothesis generation, experimental design, and data interpretation. The technician will also be responsible for making figures for manuscripts and drafting summary reports. Key contribution to projects has the potential to lead to authorship in scientific publications and presentations.

We are seeking an applicant who is highly motivated, exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and willing to learn. The candidate will have strong analytic and problem-solving skills required to troubleshoot experimental issues. We employ a team-based interdisciplinary approach, working with researchers from diverse backgrounds. As such, the candidate must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with others.

This is an ideal position for individuals who are interested in working at the interface of research and clinical medicine. This full-time position has potential for growth.

We are a part of Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center and Pathology and work closely with other researchers at outside institutions such as the Broad Institute. Our goal is to enhance cancer research utilizing the latest high-plex staining and advanced imaging techniques coupled with state-of-the-art image quantification tools. We have extensive experience with standard IHC and fluorescence stains as well as more complex spatial profiling of multiplex protein and RNA assays on tissue and liquid biopsy specimens. Project-specific image analysis tools are created using sophisticated commercial software and custom in-house software. We provide a range of resources from targeted training for user-facilitated research to more involved collaborative efforts.
