Research Compliance Coordinator/Analyst

The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation seeks a Research Compliance Coordinator or Analyst to join our team. This position plays a key role in building relationships with our investigators and departmental staff to assist them with the evolving world of conflict of commitment and interest (COCI) requirements and is critical to our responsibility to comply with sponsor terms and to maintain the integrity of our institution.

Coordinator responsibilities include:

  • Serving as a point of contact for faculty, staff, and students on COCI policies, procedures, and electronic systems; developing and delivery of training to stakeholder groups.
  • Analyzing financial interest disclosures; Reviewing project-specific COCI compliance requirements; Identifying potential conflicts of commitment and interest.
  • Monitor annual COCI disclosure compliance.
  • Maintaining the content of the COCI webpages; supporting the COCI review committee by assembling meeting agendas and supporting documents and maintaining a Teams channel; maintaining knowledge of emerging issues in conflicts of commitment and interest.
  • Establishing professional rapport with departmental offices and central offices.
  • Other contributions aligned with goals of the COCI.
Analyst responsibilities include:
  • Serving as a point of contact for faculty, staff, and students on COCI policies, procedures, and electronic systems; developing and delivery of training to stakeholder groups.
  • Analyzing financial interest disclosures; Reviewing project-specific COCI compliance requirements; Identifying potential conflicts of commitment and interest.
  • Monitor annual COCI disclosure compliance and maintain the content of the COCI webpages; supporting the COCI review committee by assembling meeting agendas and supporting documents and maintaining a Teams channel; maintaining knowledge of emerging issues in conflicts of commitment and interest.
  • Managing the routing and distribution of conflict management plans.
  • Implementing a monitoring program for conflict management plans through consultation with departments, review of publications, and assessing how the conflict may have evolved since the plan was implemented.
  • Provide advice on structure and processes to continually improve our services.
  • Establishing professional rapport with departmental offices and central offices.
  • Other contributions aligned with goals of the COCI.
Required Qualifications (Coordinator):
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience such as collaborative projects completed in school, successful customer service experience, regulatory/compliance experience, or active participation in relevant training such as series provided by the National Council of University Research Administrators, Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative, Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research, and/or the American Association of Medical Colleges. Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications (Coordinator):
  • Demonstrated experience as a productive team member.
  • Extensive use of Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • 2+ years working in research administration in an academic setting.
  • Current enrollment in or completion of UIUC sponsored programs and research administration certification series SPaRC'Ed or a similar research administration training program.
Required Qualifications (Analyst):
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience such as collaborative projects completed in school, successful customer service experience, regulatory/compliance experience, or active participation in relevant training such as series provided by the National Council of University Research Administrators, Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative, Public Responsibility in Medicine and Research, and/or the American Association of Medical Colleges. Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience managing short- and long-term projects.
Preferred Qualifications (Analyst):
  • Advanced Degree.
  • Demonstrated experience as a productive team member.
  • Extensive use of Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • 3+ years working in research administration and regulatory compliance standards in an academic setting.
  • Illinois Certified Research Administrator (CRA) or hold a CRA certification.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and represent the OVCRI and the University in a professional manner. Ability to review and analyze sponsor requirements and monitor for updates to those requirements. Close cooperating and coordination with supervisor. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of sponsored research activity within a University setting. Ability to use good judgement and logic with attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to interpret rules, regulations, and policies for use in programs and processes. Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Ability to handle sensitive and/or confidential information. Maintains a high degree of professionalism Ability to work independently and in a team. Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close date. Salary is commensurate with experience.
