Occupational Summary

Provide leadership in the development, implementation and management of research for the Duke Cancer Institute's [DCI] Oncology Clinical Research Unit [CRU]. Serve as the primary liaison throughout the institution for assigned projects. Build study specific treatment plans and supportive care regimens for multiple, complex oncology clinical trials and research studies using EPIC Beacon.

Work Preformed

Program, Project and Study Management

Work closely with the Principal Investigator [PI] and study team to analyze, develop, test and implement study specific clinical research treatment protocols in the EPIC Beacon Module with minimal supervision. Evaluate, analyze and synthesize information from various sources and translate information into different types of electronic clinical tools such as order sets, treatment plans and protocols. Extract treatment information from research protocols.

Evaluate plans, processes, and results to make recommendations for improvement; develop and implement solutions. Recognize and offer solutions to study problems. Assist in the development of amendment changes. Provide status reports to management and study teams.

Attend meetings as required and participate on committees as directed. Collaborate with leadership and staff to develop and participate in presentations to both internal and external groups on study activation including the status of validation of the EPIC Beacon builds and other topics.

Ensure the process flows for the EPIC Beacon protocols represent best practices, work standardization, and compliance. Oversee compliance with institutional requirements, policies and appropriate study-level documentation.

Acts as liaison between study teams and the Duke Office of Clinical Research [DOCR] Beacon Team; providing expertise and experience across departments. Support high quality research and customer service excellence while serving as a direct link between the clinical research staff, research operations leadership and DOCR.

Develop, write and implement standard operating procedures.

Communication

Collaborate, and communicate with PI and study personnel as required. Communicate concerns clearly in a professional manner. Respond timely to emails, phone calls and questions. Escalate issues to others as appropriate.

Leadership

The primary contact in the development of study specific EPIC Beacon build. Educate and train clinical research staff on the EPIC Beacon development process. Serve as an expert resource for colleagues and teammates. Assist colleagues in identifying efficiencies and improving process. Support colleagues in their project work; encourage completion. Actively network.

Maintain a positive image when dealing with department personnel and other Duke University employees. Maintain a positive image when dealing with department personnel and other Duke University employees.

Provide leadership within the team. Mentor staff. Prepare for, lead and participate in team meetings, committees, task forces and ad hoc groups.

Ethics

Recognize and employ the professional guidelines and code of ethics related to the conduct of clinical research. Know and follow policies, standard operating procedures [SOPs], regulations and protocol requirements that govern clinical research. Maintain Duke and project specific training and certification requirements.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Completion of a Bachelor's degree

Experience

Work requires a minimum of four years of research experience (e.g., experience. research, clinical, interaction with study population, program coordination). A Master's degree may substitute for two years of related
