Job Description Summary
The Research Specialist will perform experiments to investigate tumor-immune interaction in lung cancer using genetically engineered mouse models. Specifically, the job includes assistance with mouse colony maintenance, harvesting tissue and performing immune profiling analysis, collecting and recording data, and providing lab managerial assistance under the supervision of the PI in the laboratory. Opportunities will exist for the research specialist to possibly obtain authorship on scientific manuscripts.
Job Description
The laboratory studies tumor immunology and uses mouse models to probe the cellular, molecular pathways important for lung cancer development. The successful candidate will be responsible for lab management and lab organization duties and have impeccable organization skills. The candidate will supervise and perform experiments and provide general laboratory support, including assistance with mouse colony maintenance, oversee equipment maintenance, insure adequate supplies for experimental needs. Assist in personnel management. Maintain inventory of laboratory reagents. Act as a liaison to administrative offices. Experiments involve murine models and extensive use of flow cytometry and advanced molecular techniques. The ability to work well in a team as well as independently is expected. A strong interest in immunology, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and experience in a research laboratory is required.
The primary role of this position is to maintain the general operation of the lab and to assist with lab experiments and research. The job will include a combination of independent studies focused around multifaceted team driven project as well as providing support. Duties will include in vivo animal model experiment.
Responsibilities will also oversee mouse colony management, genotyping, histology, tissue harvest, as well as maintaining records and material stocks. Cell and molecular work may require experience in qpcr, tissue culture and Flow cytometry etc..
Position in contingent on continued funding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor Degree and 1-3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Experience with animal work, tissue culture is highly preferred. Some of the work is done in the animal facility; it would be helpful if the candidate is not allergic to mice. Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills are essential, as is the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment.
