Research Technician I - (V. Kraus)

Responsibilities:

Perform a variety of complex technical duties involved in biological research including laboratory tests, experiments and determinations to obtain data for research purposes. Determine and set up instruments, material and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment as required for specific tests, in particular ELISAs. Properly prepare media, chemicals, reagents and solutions, etc.

Manage sample and reagent inventory to ensure the ability of the Shared Resource to meet the needs of projects.

To be trained to perform molecular biology techniques including but not limited to: RNA analyses, joint tissue extraction for RNA, protein and cells, cell culture, tissue sectioning.

Attend and present periodically at weekly lab meetings.

Compile / analyze data and write reports on results. Contribute to the publication of abstracts and manuscripts.

Confer with the principal investigator and the manager of the Duke Biomarkers Shared Resource review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments and timelines.

Perform other related duties as necessary and requested.

Education/Experience:Work requires an Associate's degree in a scientific related field, preferably in biology. Related Bachelor's degree is preferred. The position requires excellent organizational, time management, writing, and analytical skills.

Additional Qualities:

This position is primarily with the Duke Biomarkers Core Facility. This group will be responsible for maintaining best practices in immunoassays and preparation of samples for genomic sequencing for different research groups. This team member will manage complex cohorts of samples, perform immunoassays and prepare samples for genomic sequencing to promote biomarker research.

We are seeking someone who is enthusiastic and pays meticulous attention to detail. Training will be provided but previous experience is preferred. Good record keeping skills are essential for this position.
