We are seeking a full-time Scientific Editor to join the launch team of Cell Genomics and provide expertise more broadly across Cell Press journals. Cell Genomics is a new Open Science and gold Open Access Research Journal at Cell Press publishing research on the forefront of genetics, genomics and genome technology.
Compelling applicants will bring curiosity, incisive thinking and interest to learn. They will be comfortable thinking independently about difficult scientific problems and adept at communicating complicated ideas with precision, nuance, and clarity as well as working collaboratively within a team. Most importantly, they will care deeply about science and have strong convictions about how to serve the scientific community well.
The successful applicant will be an integral member of the Cell Genomics Editorial Team and also work closely and dynamically with other journal teams. You will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial colleagues to develop the journal. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a new journal to best serve the needs of this vibrant scientific community.
Key responsibilities will include:
Assessing submitted research papers, overseeing the peer review process, working collaboratively with researchers and editors; recruiting superb research papers, commissioning and shaping review content; writing editorial content; representing Cell Genomics at scientific meetings and visits to research institutions; developing strong ties with relevant research communities; and contributing to Cell Press growth and innovation projects particularly in open science and open access.
A PhD is required, preferably in genetics, genomics or a related discipline. Post-doctoral experience is an advantage but not required. Previous editorial experience is desirable, but not required-level of the job will be based on previous experience. Applicants with a professional background, such as running a research group or working in industry, are also encouraged to apply.
