DESCRIPTION:

This position has the responsibility mentor network administration support staff as well as support of the technical architecture, design, implementation and continuity of the organization's production network infrastructure. Network infrastructure for this organization includes, but not limited to, LAN, WAN, WLAN, Wireless Bridging, VoIP (IP Telephony), QoS, Firewall, Telephony Systems and Telecommunications. The person in this position will work closely with members of the IT staff to ensure very high levels of network availability, security and efficiency. The person in this position will serve as the lead technical resource for network production operations support and relevant systems projects.

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide leadership in the development and adherence to network engineering design standards that include device configurations, logical and physical security aspects, logical addressing, vendor technologies and others as defined.

  • Mentor Network Administrators in industry standards for technology and security strategies
  • Provide direct management and administrative oversight of network engineering tasks and activities.
  • Works in a lead capacity during project design and implementation activities.
  • Develop, design and implement network infrastructure solutions based on industry best practices to meet business, compliance and security requirements.
  • Participation in project delivery work that includes design, configuration, testing and deployment.
  • Perform system log, traffic, and performance analysis as required for production support and security requests
  • Perform duties as final internal escalation point for network and infrastructure related incidents
  • Participate in the organization's change management process.
  • Act as technical resource to network initiatives for group members and other organizational entities.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation that includes process, procedures and relevant physical and logical network diagrams.
  • Configure and deploy company LANs, WANs, WLANs, Routers, Switches, Firewalls, purpose-built appliances and other hardware to required specifications.
  • Monitor and report on network systems performance, help identify network trends, and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.
  • Keep informed of industry standards, emerging technologies and security developments in order to maintain a highly efficient and functioning infrastructure
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation that may include technical specifications information.
  • Develop process improvements and standard operating procedures for network related tasks and activities.
  • Participate in an on-call after hours rotation, and provide escalation point for after hours infrastructure issues.
  • Maintain relationships with OEM and Vendors

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:
  • B.A./B.S. and 6 years of experience or 10 years' experience in Data Center Operations and infrastructure management
  • Current certification as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) required
  • Minimum of 5 years' hands on experience managing a network infrastructure comprised of Cisco technologies that includes router, switch, firewall, access security and other.
  • Experience in Data Center / Hosting / Distributed network environments.
  • Understanding of and experience using Process Change Management.
  • Ability to clearly present project status and metrics.
  • Have worked with a high-availability systems environment.
  • Ability to solve critical production issues when required.
  • Proven experience with network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
  • Strong, hands-on technical knowledge with networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of MPLS, QoS, WAN Traffic Optimization and Prioritization.
  • Knowledge of and experience with SIP or H.323 VoIP Protocols.
  • Ability to develop network, voice and data systems in multi-facility, multi-city corporate environments using public switched circuits and/or private line facilities.
  • Knowledge of communications protocols and integration of new systems with existing systems.
  • Knowledge of transport media such as twisted pair, broadband, baseband, coaxial, microwave and fiber optic systems.
  • Working technical knowledge of relevant and current network hardware, protocols, and Internet standards.
  • Competence with testing tools and procedures for voice and data circuits.
  • Ability to apply the principles of analytical and critical thinking skills and other professional practices to diagnose or define problems, collect data and solve abstract problems with widespread unit or organization impact.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Able to effectively prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Prior management or team lead experience preferred.

DIRECTION EXERCISED: Mentor and provide guidance to junior members of the team, and direct management and administrative oversight of network engineering and support activities.

DISCRETION EXERCISED: Development and implementation of network infrastructure solutions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to tour all vessels and work sites.

Specific physical requirements include the following:

Perform prolonged standing. Ability to turn head from side to side and about the vertical axis. Ability to turn body at the waist from side to side and about the vertical axis. Demonstrate the ability to safely and appropriately use required tools and equipment. Demonstrate good balance while working on uneven surfaces and maneuvering obstacles. Possess sufficient handgrip and coordination to carry and operate tools and equipment. Ability to utilize personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toes shoes, goggles), safely per OSHA standards. Ability to withstand cold and hot temperatures. Able to respond to verbal and audible sounds/commands. Able to utilize adequate visual skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to humid conditions, bright flashing lights, moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, outside weather conditions, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud, + 90 dB.
