The Senior Process Controls Engineer (SPCE) will develop and deploy proven and novel functional automated controls solutions in our processing facilities. The SPCE will be a member of the Digital Deployment team who is responsible for the piloting and scaling of innovative projects intended to improve and change the way Mosaic works. The projects will occur within processing facilities in Florida and Louisiana. Additionally, the SPCE will be asked to mentor the on-site controls engineer during project deployments in order to prepare them for supporting on-going activities. The SPCE is critical to the success of the team and all automation development activities will go through them. The SPCE is responsible for:

What will you do?

  • The individual in this role will be the most tenured controls engineer in Mosaic.
  • The responsibilities this position will have is to develop the standard scripting methods that will be utilized at all sites.
  • The SPCE is an experienced individual with intimate knowledge of the process systems, hardware, software components and various data analytic techniques
  • Developing advanced process control solutions for our process. This involves the development of all code in multiple scripting languages to support our operations at various sites.
  • Lead the brainstorming and design of control philosophy to ensure practicality that is easy to understand and troubleshoot in order to enhance process safety, stability, reliability, cost, efficiencies and throughput.
  • Analyze and tune process control loops
  • Develop and debug function block diagrams, ladder logic and/or structured text programming language
  • Work with Process Engineer and Lead Process Control Specialist to identify and develop important PI tags for our data historian
  • Work with Operator and Automation Tech to develop and deploy High Performance HMI screens
  • Leverage Asset Framework and utilize visualization tools and notifications to identify problematic process control loops. This will be paramount to sustaining gains. Work with Operations to troubleshoot process control loops including hardware, software, and electrical.
  • Lead the development of Operator training, revise existing standard operating procedures, and adhere to management of change policies
  • Work with Digital Deployment Team to identify instrumentation requirements, process controls tolerances, safety interlocks, permissives, alarms, operator displays, and operator feedback. Working with Digital Deployment Team to estimate time to complete backlog of tasks.
  • Develop and manage schedule and resource requirements as needed for project objectives

What do you need for this role?
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering
  • 10+ years of experience working with Industrial Control Systems in an operational environment
  • Strong understanding of Process Controls fundamentals including feedback control, feedforward, cascade, ratio, decoupling and tuning are a must
  • Ability to develop in Visual Basic Programming Language
  • Ability to develop in structured text is a plus
  • Ability to deploy High Performance HMI
  • Previous experience providing 24/7/365 support within an operational environment
  • Familiar with OSI Soft PI data historian including Process book, PI Vision and Asset Framework
  • Experience with multiple DCS/PLC platforms including Rockwell PLC RSLogix, Novatech D/3 System, and DeltaV are preferred. Yokogawa is a plus
  • Knowledge of PSM, HAZOP, LOPA, and SIS are a plus
  • Must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the job without posing a direct threat to the safety of his or her own self, or the safety of others.
  • Able to lift approximately 0-25 lbs. unassisted and occasionally
  • Able to climb stairs and work at various heights
  • Able to hear, with or without correction
  • Able to read, write and understand basic English
  • Able to see, with our without correction
  • Able to travel unassisted
  • Able to work rotating shifts and overtime as required
