Senior Project Engineer - Supplier Quality

Work Mode: Onsite

Location:  Kohler, WI


As a Senior Project Engineer-Supplier Quality, KPS, you will have the opportunity to impact Kohler's ability to meet customer requirements by driving quality throughout Kohler's supply chain.  It will be your responsibility to manage the quality requirements for a diverse supply base and execute improvement activities with these suppliers. 


  • Manage supply base ranging in complexity from hoses & electronic components to alternators & engines.
  • Define quality expectation for Kohler supply base and develop supplier action plan to achieve improvement targets.
  • Complete on-site assessments and supplier qualification activities in conjunction with the purchasing organization.
  • Drive process integrity for supplier change management for Kohler product.
  • Review and approve supplier Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions for current product changes.
  • Lead problem solving teams both internally and externally to minimize production impact of supplier quality defects.
  • Speaks with candor while respecting others.
  • Meetings have purpose (i.e. take action, update team, agendas, and conclude with a review of key takeaways and assignments).  Meeting leader keeps discussions to subject matter relevant to resolving the issues or topic.
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency.  Inspires a sense of urgency in others.


Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Staff Engineer-Supplier Quality, KPS

Organizational Relationships:

  • Frequent contact with Manufacturing Engineering regarding product requirements and process costs.
  • Frequent contact with Design Engineering regarding compatibility of design and suppliers' process capabilities.
  • Frequent contact with Purchasing regarding vendor selection, management of quality expectations and cost impact of supplied nonconforming product.
  • Moderate contact with Division Management regarding quality system development, performance and improvement initiatives.
  • Moderate contact with Field Service and Warranty Administration regarding defects that impact customer experience.

External Relationships:

  • Frequent contact and management of quality systems for third party suppliers to Kohler Power Systems.


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from ABET accredited program as well as manufacturing or quality co-op/intern experience is required.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience using systematic, problem solving approaches: 6 sigma, root cause analysis, statistical analysis and 8D problem solving.
  • Ability to travel up to 25 percent is required for position.


  • Supplier Quality experience is preferred.
  • Experience with 6 Sigma, problem solving methodology.
  • Previous experience working with Automotive Industry Action Group's (AIAG) processes for Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA), Control Plans, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP).
