KBS-LTAR Associate Director for Stakeholder Engagement
We seek an Associate Director for Stakeholder Engagement for the Long-term Agroecosystem Research (LTAR) program at the WK Kellogg Biological Station (KBS), an off-campus academic unit of Michigan State University. The Associate Director will support MSU's contribution to the national effort to develop strategies for the sustainable intensification of agricultural production (ltar.ars.usda.gov). This is a full-time, 12 month Academic Specialist appointment with competitive salary and benefits. Open to negotiation to part-time position if desired for the right candidate.
The Associate Director for Stakeholder Engagement will be responsible for designing, directing, and managing relationships between KBS LTAR and its various external stakeholders. Stakeholders include participants at all levels: producers, agribusiness professionals, farm advisors both private and public, state and federal agency personnel, policymakers, extension educators, journalists, and others with interests in the sustainable intensification of American agriculture including the general public. Specific duties include facilitating stakeholder participation in LTAR science, identify emergent stakeholder engagement opportunities, acting as first point of contact for non-researchers, helping to build annual plans and reports, managing outreach communication including a web site and social media, coordinating stakeholder and communication activities with sister programs at KBS (e.g. LTER, GLBRC, Kellogg Farm), co-organizing workshops and annual meetings for stakeholders and researchers, participating in Network meetings and initiatives; helping to represent the site to external visitors, and engaging in other activities designed to advance site and Network success. There is also the opportunity to participate as PI or co-PI on external grants.
The Associate Director for Stakeholder Engagement will report to the KBS-LTAR Director (Phil Robertson) and will work closely with the Associate Director for Agronomy, the LTAR Information Manager, and other staff. Doctorate -Agronomy or Closely Related FieldMinimum Requirements
The position requires a Ph.D. in agronomy or a closely related field, with experience in an outreach or education position working with diverse agricultural stakeholders, and with strong writing and people skills.Desired Qualifications
