Infectious Diseases

With a new emphasis on infectious diseases, AstraZeneca's strategy in this therapeutic area focuses on ways to reduce morbidity and mortality by developing multiple avenues of prophylaxis in responding to the threat of specific infectious disease. The patient-centric approach is led by scientific discovery and clinical evidence-based life-cycle management. Current and emerging AstraZeneca infectious diseases assets include novel vaccine platforms and unique monoclonal antibody formulations against some of the most impactful diseases.

Position Summary:

AstraZeneca is forming a field medical Infectious Diseases Medical Science Liaison (ID MSL) team to support vaccine and monoclonal antibody assets against COVID-19, influenza, and other infectious diseases. This dynamic team will respond to needs across the United States by leveraging virtual interactions and managing key face-to-face engagements. Priority collaborative efforts will focus on external expert mapping and developing & maintaining peer-to-peer scientific relationships with key experts, including internal and external stakeholders. A successful candidate has a proven track record of following the science and safety of an asset while always putting the patient first.

Minimum Requirements:

  • -Advanced Clinical/Science Degree required (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD, MSN, NP, PA, etc.). BSN with extensive clinical experience may be considered.
  • -2+ years of experience in Medical Affairs in the pharmaceutical industry
  • -Knowledge of customer segments and market dynamics
  • -Demonstrated expertise in discussing scientific content and context to multiple audiences
  • Must reside in territory
  • Ability to travel (50-70%) - percentage varies with geography

Desired:
  • Terminal Clinical Health Science Degree (applicable PhD considered).
  • At least 6-years of recent MSL experience.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Superior communication skills.
  • Superior virtual and live presentation skills.
  • Clinical infectious diseases background or experience.
  • Candidates should have at least 3 of the following criteria:
    • MSL experience supporting influenza franchise.
    • MSL experience supporting COVID-19 franchise.
    • MSL experience teaching field medical capabilities.
    • Recent MSL experience mentoring field medical personal.
    • Recent MSL experience supporting monoclonal antibody franchise.
    • Recent MSL experience supporting oncology or hematology franchise.
    • Recent MSL experience supporting solid organ transplant franchise.
    • Recent MSL experience supporting vaccine franchise.
    • College/University teaching experience.

Skills/Expectations:

The Infectious Diseases Medical Science Liaison must possess well developed and refined interpersonal skills, including the ability to create and sustain relationships with internal and external thought leaders. Additionally, virtual and in-person engagement skills, appropriate for individuals and groups, are essential. Foundational training and experience must be sufficient for accurate translation of dense academic and technical information into accessible, understandable, and meaningful engagements with internal and external stakeholders of various disciplines and educational levels.
