CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

Collects, analyzes, and presents research data. Monitors and maintains relevant research databases to ensure accurate data entries. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results to include authorship of scientific monographs. Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research. Maintains current knowledge of relevant developments in the field. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. Warrants that department activities comply with applicable guidelines and regulations. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

Assist in the development and validation of mass spectrometry assays for various protein/peptide analytes. Prepare biological samples for analysis using a variety of protein purification techniques Operate, maintain and troubleshoot a variety of mass spectrometers (MALDI-TOF, LC-QTOF, LC-triple quadrupole). Organize data, interpret results and enter test results into the computer, with minimal supervision. Maintain complete, accurate, organized, and up-to-date records/logs/files in accordance with regulatory requirements. Contribute to upkeep and safety of the laboratory and assure a clean, safe, adequately supplied work area. Assure the accuracy of all tests performed by adhering to the laboratory's standard operating procedures. Review test orders and verify accuracy of corresponding specimens. Stay up to date with literature and technical publications related to LC-MS analysis.

Department Specific Qualifications

Education:

Masters degree in biochemistry, analytical chemistry, chemistry, clinical laboratory sciences, medical technology or a related field.

Certification and Licensing:

A clinical license in the field of clinical chemistry is desirable but not mandatory.

Experience:

Hands-on mass spectrometry experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

Requires knowledge of how to operate and maintain various mass spectrometers Requires knowledge of protein chemistry and protein purification techniques Requires knowledge or the ability to learn various software applications Requires the ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally Requires the ability to organize data and samples. Requires the ability to work independently and effectively within timelines and to collaborate in a multidisciplinary group
