Role Description:

  • The Product Manager is accountable for the products assigned and will own the product roadmap, vision, and strategy for these products cradle to grave including budget guidance.
  • The Product Manager incorporates inputs from subject matter experts (SMEs) on a Cross Functional Product Team (CFPT) to define problem statements and prioritize product backlogs. You will need to be a strong leader to guide the CFPT and sub-teams in delivering enhancements and new innovations that create long-term customer value, performance improvements, product break-fix needs, and maintenance. You will need to be able to influence your colleagues, stakeholders, and key executives, through your use of data and logic.

Our product teams are cross-functional and durable, generally comprised of the Product Manager partnering with key functions at Zoetis including Global Commercial (Marketing, Support, and Sales) & Medical, VMRD (Zoetis Research & Development), ZTD (Zoetis Tech & Digital), and GMS (Zoetis Global Manufacturing and Supply) teams along with partner OEM development (if applicable).
  • The successful candidate will be attuned to customer needs in veterinary medicine and their experience using our diagnostic products. It is our mission and responsibility to provide, sustain, and develop veterinary diagnostic products and features that will delight our customers and better animal health.
Responsibilities:
  • Define problem statements and maintain product backlog by:
    • Aligning with Commercial teams on product financial and strategic goals
    • Knowing the product users, product operations, and connecting the two into clear product requirements; this includes an in-depth understanding of veterinary needs and best practices within animal hospitals
    • Monitoring product performance and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
    • Providing ROI assessments for projects and understanding when to make tradeoffs in investing between projects and features
    • Bringing on-the-ground feedback into product backlog with long-term strategy in mind
    • Putting emphasis on continuous improvement and prioritization
  • Lead CFPT and sub-team collaboration by:
    • Guiding empowerment of these CFPTs to make key decisions
    • Assigning team level Objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
    • Working effectively with other functions within Zoetis which includes team building, facilitation, giving and receiving feedback, and promoting psychological safety
    • Identifying and leveraging team members to come up with creative solutions to solve customer problems and understand that consistent innovation is the results of each product team member contributing their passion and their ideas
    • Holding teams accountable to the results and not being afraid to sign up for these results
    • Being the VOC = Voice of Customer

  • Conduct continuous product discovery, which is sustained practice of experimentation and customer conversations to inform product development decisions which is key to be acknowledged as a VOC expert
  • Accountable for business viability of product including, but not limited to, revenue and costs to build, sell, and market your product, operating withing the laws of countries you sell in, holding up end in partnerships/agreements (if applicable) and fitting within the brand promise of the entire company's offerings
  • Deliver on open items in product backlogs with planned release schedule
  • Be internal advocate and product evangelist
  • Operate as product owner in ZTD software release process
  • Track industry trends and the competitive landscape
  • Drive all facets of product experience in new product launches across global markets, supporting customer, colleague, and company preparation efforts, and helping transfer materials and expertise to the commercial and medical teams
  • Communicate regularly with Commercial, Medical, and Support teams on product update and deployment plans including creating documentation needed to assist with training and service
  • Work with a network of research veterinarians and/or experts in a variety of veterinary disciplines
  • Work with Zoetis Business Development (BD) and GMS External Supply/Procurement to negotiate or re-negotiate agreements, if applicable to product

  • Experience
    • 2+ years in Product Management, product development role or equivalent industry experience
    • Demonstrated ability to learn multiple functional areas of business - engineering, design, finance, sales, or marketing
    • Proven ability to engage with SMEs and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship
  • Education
    • BA/BS degree in scientific discipline or business
    • MBA, DVM, PhD or other advanced degree preferred, but not required
