Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Coordinator of Animal Assisted Therapy assists the pet therapy program including pet therapy program volunteers and community partners. This position reports to the Manager of Animal Assisted Therapy.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Assists the program including volunteers and community partners
• Assists with the volunteer schedules and credentials
• Ensure competency of staff members and volunteers
• Facilitates and coordinates staff activities including patient care, PI, orientation and training of new staff members
• Participates in hospital committees, special project development and program training and implementation
• Works closely with Palliative Care and other medical teams to coordinate patient visits with their pets for patients with chronic and/or terminal illnesses. Includes screening of the animal for vaccinations and health records as well as behavioral assessments
• Participates in research in partnership with other medical professionals
• Ensures that the human and animal volunteers are in compliance with the regulatory and health requirements per policy
• Orients all new pet therapy volunteers to the hospital and the program
• Assists with patient visitation, scheduling visits and appointments
• Delivers pet therapy and treatment to patients
• Maintains any records necessary for the evaluation of service needs and efficiency, and ensures that pet records and documentation are clear, accurate, and comply with legal requirements

Job Requirements

• Four years of experience as a pet trainer
• Understands the Animal Human Bond Connection and advocates for dogs and humans.
