The Role

Under the direction of the Director of Sales - Capital Finishing Lines , the Applications Engineer is responsible for developing a complete technical solution with appropriate content for all assigned proposals consistent with applicable specifications and schedules. The Applications engineer is also expected to coordinating with the electrical engineering department, manufacturing department, production department and other intercompany departments as necessary for the completion of proposals.

Requirements

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Key Result Items

  • Perform detailed calculations to support the design and development of individual products as well as processes
  • Maintain time schedules for assigned proposals
  • Prepare request for quotation(s) and specifications for purchased equipment and services
  • Establish and maintain vendor contacts
  • Establish and maintain standard technical specifications and line drawings
  • Coordinates electrical requirements with the assigned electrical engineer.
  • Review completed proposals and technical specifications with the Director of Sales
  • Review with the Director of Sales overall line and machine concepts.
  • Review with the Director of Sales the referenced design concepts and engineering calculations for all machines in the proposal with respect to cost and function required.
  • Maintain equipment references based on material parameters and manufacturing cost
  • Perform root cause analysis and lean manufacturing principles for product development

  • MS Office products
  • AutoCAD 2D
  • FEA programs
  • SAP System
  • Syteline
  • 3D design programs (Solid Edge, Inventor)
Knowledge
  • College level training in machine design and strength of materials.
  • Knowledge of electrical drives and controls systems.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Broad knowledge of coil processing equipment in the metals industry.

Education and Experience
  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent is required.
  • 8-10 years' experience in the design of strip processing and heavy-duty mill type equipment.
