Description:
WINTHROP UNIVERSITY, a highly ranked, public, comprehensive university seeks full-time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Dance, with possible Dance Program Director duties for the right candidate. This is a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track appointment in the Department of Theatre and Dance within the College of Visual and Performing Arts. This position requires daily contact with students, faculty, and staff on campus. The ideal candidate will be committed to an interdisciplinary approach to dance training and will aid with curriculum and course development. Additionally, the successful candidate may be expected to occasionally participate in events in the evenings and on weekends. Salary and rank are dependent upon qualifications. 

Responsibilities:

• Teaching modern and jazz technique at all levels
• Choreographing departmental dance productions
• Teaching other technique courses and dance theory courses based on expertise/interest
• Teaching load is 9-12 credit hours, which is approx. 12-18 contact hours per semester
• Advise and mentor dance students
• Maintain creative and/or scholarly activity as demonstrated by an active research profile
• Engage in student recruitment
• Serve on departmental, college and university committees
• Summer teaching opportunities may be available
• Possible: provide leadership for the dance program as Dance Program Director

The faculty member serving as Dance Program Director will be reassigned the equivalent of three credit hours of teaching duties per semester to conduct administrative tasks. This reassignment of teaching duties includes the expectation that some administrative tasks will need to be conducted during times when regular faculty members are not officially on contract.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications

• Terminal Degree in Dance: MFA or PhD (completed by contract start date)
• Evidence of effectiveness in teaching dance at the undergraduate level
• A record of scholarly/creative activity in dance
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills 
• Evidence of proven success working in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with diverse student populations
• Experience with related administrative responsibilities (budgets, records, reporting, programs, assessment)
• Experience in producing, artistic direction, and/or program curation in Dance.
• Two or more years of post-secondary teaching experience. Experience could include graduate-level teaching, assistantships, and advising, as well as adjunct teaching
