Assistant Professor, Public Health and Wellness
Louisiana State University

Baton Rouge, Louisiana
$0.00 - $100.00 per hour

One of the distinctive features of the Department of African & African American Studies (AAAS) at Louisiana State University is the study of the history, cultures, and religions in Louisiana and their connections to Africa and the Americas with an emphasis on racial disparities in health and wellness. To seize upon and expand this distinctiveness, AAAS seeks a Tenure-track Assistant Professor, whose research and teaching on racial disparities in health and wellness illuminates how indigenous African and diasporic ideas and practices, that are also present in African American populations of Louisiana, contribute to improved health outcomes and to closing the gap in health and wellness disparities. Of particular interest is a research engagement of official public health practices in Louisiana and how insights from African and diasporic cultures might serve as matters for research and service delivery.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of specialization and to work with the Chair and faculty to facilitate research relationships with LSU's Pennington Biomedical Research Center and local and state public health institutions.

A comprehensive, doctoral, high-research activity university situated in the Capitol City, Louisiana State University enrolls over 30,000 students and offers the opportunity for undergraduates to major or minor in African & African American Studies and graduate students from any of the university's graduate programs to purse a Graduate Minor in Africana Studies.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in Public Health, Anthropology, Africana Studies, and related disciplines. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.

Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
